Hello everyone!! A week back I had a chicken who was sitting on a mixed batch of eggs...I’m pretty sure when she got off her eggs to eat and drink water, other chickens came and laid more eggs in her already developing batch.
So when it came to hatching time, only three of hers hatched and the others were not ready so she left them. I got the remaining in the incubator and two have hatched so far, two days apart.
Egg # 1 hatched on October 15, Egg #2 hatched on Saturday, and Egg #3 is in the incubator atm. Egg #2 had developed a dipped air cell and had started to internally pip Thursday night. Egg #3 also had a dipped air cell and there was slight movement along the “dip line”, so I quickly put that one with it in the hatching incubator, just in case if Egg #2 externally pipped and Egg #3 internally pipped, I wouldn’t have to try to open the lid after and risk drying out the membrane. (So I essentially am not sure when Egg#3 internally pipped). Egg #3 hasn’t made an external pip yet and so I’ve been a worry wart, as I usually whistle or shine a light and the eggs move, but this one hasn’t. (It did yesterday so I’m even more anxious). I got the humidity to 80 and opened the bator to check on it a few min ago and I haven’t seen a sharp beak mark but there is more of a mountain shape taking up a majority of the air cell and there is movement. I couldn’t hear anything but I also didn’t want to have it out for too long so I put it back in. Should I just wait it out? When chick 2 hatched, he did tumble over Egg #3 several times. I feel like I’m being overly stressed and I should just sit it out. Any advice?
