International Black Copper Marans Thread - Breeding to the SOP

Great...can you post an update when you receive them? I should order a couple also, but just curious if there's a noticable shade difference between the actual card and the screenshot I have.
Ok. I will.
From what I am seeing online, my eggs are like a 6, I think. The breeder said the original eggs were from alchemist farm and were very dark eggs.
But I'll wait till next spring when the chick mature more and the eggs get to their regular sizes. Then I'll know for sure.

Gypsy still has not laid an egg. She shows no interest in the nest. She just runs around, eat and doesn't pay rent. Her wattles and comb are a weird purple color. So, at this point, I have no idea what color she will lay. I will be so happy if she lays cream like the a Ayam Cemani. I know I know, wishful thinking. But no way to know for sure what she is.

If your looking for precise...I've been told to document the 1st 20-30 eggs. This will give us an average color that pullet/hen will lay.
@Chooks man even weighs his eggs because they must be a certain weight also, believe it's around 65 g but don't quote me. I date and mark all my eggs and take photos usually when I get a dozen collected.

Is this the gypsy face you had a post or thread going somewhere?
You should post pics here for the experts to see her, if you didn't already.

😁😁😁😁😁😁 I've been eating those marans eggs as they came lol. They are so small. I will start collecting.

Yes, it was the same Gypsy/gypsy face
She is still all black but her wattles and comb are reddish/purplish kinda. Low and behold, i caught her checking out the nest today. She is one of the biggest hens in my flock.

I am thinking that she might start laying by the end of the month.

She is sitting in the nest. Will keep you guys posted.
Here is her first egg. I would say 'unremarkable'. Not as dark as the FBCM. Not as freckly. Hopefully they get darker.

On an exciting note, my mom found a nest in the backyard in the middle of the big squash
It is laid by Bitsy our little bantam girl. She comes and goes as she pleases. Never thought of her as a layer, but she has been laying all along.

Good morning beautiful chicken tenders! Question.. I am getting ready to hatch HB Marans' FBCMs and I would like to vent sex them. I have heard (mainly just from Cackle's website) that they can be difficult to sex, but I can't find why. Does anyone have any tips or tricks to this for BCMs? I can't see anywhere where they are different to any other vent for sexing. Also, I am attempting to choose the pick of the litter, so to speak. Anything specific I should look out for when doing so? I will be keeping all of the chicks for at least the first week and then they are going to new homes after that, so I will be able to see if anything off putting develops, but I don't expect there to be much due to the careful breeding from Holly's stock. I will be keeping just one pullet that I am hoping to get as close to SOP as possible. Thank you! Pics of her flock and eggs for your viewing pleasure. <3
