my black copper rooster for this breeding season ,16 to 18 months old now finishing they big molt .looking good and ready for work , most of them will be sold after I breed a couple round from them ,they new owners are waiting ,
I ll be working with small pens just a pair in each pen ,couple round , first round of each rooster will be with his true sister to test for recessive genes ,and a second round will be with a selected hen for him ( the most compatable in my opinion ). no more pens breeding for me next few years just pairs breeding . need a lot small pens and lot different ways of tagging ,
enough talking .here the cockbirds I m talking about ,
Opera House - sire Blackgen ,Dam LoveSong - he is very big , long and wide , his comb is his weakes too big and arched .

I was reading some history on the marans. I was surprised to learn that some of the first ones were silver cuckoos, and whites. I had made the assumption the black coppers were the original variety since they are so common.

The black copper just got lucky it because it was those imports to America which became basically commercialised or popularised for the dark eggs.

I’d assumed that the silver cuckoos were first because the three cuckoos and black are the only UK recognised varieties, because I think these two varieties made it here before the others were standardised. Even though we don’t have whites, all the English recognised colours can basically be derived from whites (provided they are gold based) and silver cuckoos. Maybe the black was imported with them too, and the whites never made it either.

If anyone knows more on this I’d love to hear.
