(1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I just got my first batch of chicks from a farm I frequent often. They did egg hatching programs with local schools and something happened where the teacher was unable to keep them so I offered to take them off their hands. This is my first time raising chickens!
(2) How many chickens do you have right now? I have 6 chickens
(3) What breeds do you have? Im not entirely sure which is which just yet as they are still young but the farm has Barred rock, black orpingtons and some crosses. As their feathers are coming in I'm almost certain that I have 2 barred rock 3 black orpingtons and I'm not entirely sure what my white one is yet. I'm assuming barred rock because it has some of those patterns but I'm just assuming at this very moment
(4) What are your favorite aspects of raising backyard chickens? So far I just love their little personalities. I have 2 that just love to be around me and will cuddle in and go to sleep. I love how one will pick up a piece of wood chip and start running and peeping and the others will chase it and try to steal it from one another. It also makes me feel happy because I've always dreamed of having a farm someday and this is my first step!
(5) What are some of your other hobbies? I like to garden, crochet, and knit. Haven't really had time for the crocheting or knitting as I'm relocating my garden this year to a more sunnier spot and I have a 2 year old and chickens now.
(6) Tell us about your family, your other pets, your occupation, or anything else you'd like to share. We are a family of 3. I am a stay at home mom to a 2 year old little girl, we have 3 cats a bunch of guppies and now chickens. We used to have dogs but they passed a year ago, we plan on getting another possibly after the chickens so that we can have a guard dog as we are not able to have roosters within city limits
(7) Bonus: How did you find BYC, how long have you known about BYC, and what made you finally join our awesome community?
I was looking up information about chickens as I have one chick that is very slowly growing feathers and has watery poops. The farm i got them from said maybe the class helped it out of its shell and it didn't dry properly or something. I'm not entirely sure so I came here for more information. I just found this site on Google and few minutes before writing this.
