I sprayed some Mighty Mint Rodent Repellent (peppermint oil solution) in and around my coop to deal with rats.

I know some say it’s not effective - well, I’ll find out. But that’s not my question.

I started to worry that the “fumes” from the product might be hazardous to the chickens due to their fragile respiratory systems. What do you think?

The internet offers contradictory information about whether essential oils are safe to use around chickens. The company says it’s safe for “pets” but nowhere on their website is anything mentioned specifically about birds.

I see searching on here that some people have used it in their coops, I presume without incident. I just acquired 5 new pullets so I’m concerned.

Mint as in the herb is considered calming to chickens. As long as you're not spraying it in the air where they are breathing they should be fine. I'd not soak the area with it though and don't believe you have to do that with that product.

I too have seen a lot of people use that in their coops. Not sure how great it works, probably better for mice than rats though.

Here's a thread about rat control. https://www.backyardchickens.com/threads/rat-control-the-video-series.1337456/
