To say that chicken snakes are beneficial is total crap in my book. I have lost 3 Rhode Island Red pullets, a month ago to a 4ft 5in chicken snake that got shot. Just this morning i killed a 5ft 6in chicken snake that had ate one of my Game pullets. I'm gonna try the moth balls and the sulfur. Anything at this point, i am sick of chicken snakes. Unfortunately in Southeast Texas we have just about every type of snake there is. So if anyone has anyother ideas more efficient than a .22 MAG, please let me know!

You can save your time by not using the sulfur and moth balls - totally ineffective. As is "Snake Away". I would use hardware cloth on all openings - inexpensive and easy to tack it down securely. You could use a stapler since snakes can't pry or pull up on it.
In SE Texas you have texas rat snakes. They tend to be a bit nippy if cornered but are completely harmless. Their bites are no more painful than a playful lab pup or kitten. They do hurt some if you jerk your hand away from them once bitten. All snakes have numerous backward pointing teeth so you'll rip your skin some if you pull away quickly.
But almost all snakes bite and release quickly. I bet you would be surprised by how little it hurts.
