I also think that's a toenail hole and have experienced them on occasion.
Finally an answer! Lol. I was so sure it was pecking, and turns out it’s just them stepping on it.I have seen that too, and wondered.
It doesn’t seem thinner than normal? But they just started laying last month so I’m not sure what to expect. I’ll compare to other eggs today when I make breakfast.I've had toenail damage on eggs too, but usually only on thinner shelled eggs.
That hole looks like it could be in a thin spot on shell.
Examine the shell closely.
