I’ll post this in the quail forum too. I have never seen this. This chick hatched unassisted but looked different from the beginning. He was very thin and walked very upright.

A few days later, his left was protruding between his wing and body and he had a weird stance, putting the left leg fat forward. When I held him upright, trying to see the feet parallel, the legs crossed. His spine was now curved. He was laying away from the other chicks, and seemed to have labored breathing.

And today, the outer tips of his wings are held away from his body and almost folded in the middle and upward? Chicks were trampling him, so I isolated him.

Is this some disease progression that could spread to the other chicks? I haven’t seen this before. 😢

It may be a chick with birth defects or spinal and skeletal deformities but hard to know. Getting around to get enough food and water is important, and some of these chicks are culled or starve. Others may bully it.

What happened to the thread in the Quail section? Both Quail Educators weighed in on your thread, that likely the chick has a genetic defect and won't make it.

You may want to consider culling this little one.
