Is this Normal?

I just had my first eggs hatch.This last one took some extra days to hatch and seems off and its butt looks swollen and bald. Anyone recommend or know if itll be ok or what i can do to help?

Hmmm I don’t think I’ve ever had one look that attached to it’s umbilical cord/shell at hatch, but since it now looks to be up and standing and fluffing out ok, I’d probably just watch it for now. Hopefully someone with more experience will chime in.
 
Hmm. I'm not terribly experienced, but last year I had one speckled Sussex chick whose vent was a little swollen and red for a few days after hatching. She ended up being fine. I just made sure she was pooping and behaving regularly, and she sorted herself out eventually. When you do finally put this little one in the brooder, if you're worried about pecking you can always use a clean q-tip and carefully dab some blue food dye around the area. I did do that for mine, but she had also pulled out some of her butt feathers which made it all the more enticing for her siblings to pick on her.
