Today my brother gifted me a Silkie as part of my birthday present since I have wanted one to breed with. I wanted a partridge one and voiced this as such. The one I got looks kinda partridge but she has an awful lot of buff, kinda almost columbian looking to me. So is she partridge and what are her genetics that make her look like this? Also what type of Silkie is she? I wanted an USA one, but this one has no beard so I assume she isn't that type. She is a bantam though. Next time I will stress to go with him...

Hi! She is a partridge : )

Breeding: https://silkiechickenexperts.com/blogs/silkie/partridge-silkie-chicken-exploring-this-popular-colour#:~:text=Breeding Partridge Silkies,-The Partridge colour&text=In order to hatch out,for hatching out correct females.

She is technically bearded, but she has a very small beard and it’s not really good if you would like to show her. Non-bearded silkies have waddles.
Ah okay thank you for your answer! I kinda expected a darker body and didn't know they could be this light. As for the beardiness, what causes her to not show a beard? And what would her offspring inherit? I will look tomorrow when it's light again outside to make sure she actually has no wattles

Usually it’s because her parents were a non bearded and a bearded. It just is very small.
And what would her offspring inherit?
Since bearding is dominant you will get a medium/normal beard (breed with bearded) or an even smaller beard (breed with non bearded).

This is a bearded rooster. He has a good beard. Hens will look similar. If they have a good beard.

Non bearded. She’s a little young in this picture, but they usually are bigger!

I made pictures, definitely looks non bearded to me. Do you have any source pictures for bearded silkies that don't actually show beards? Since it's a dominant gene I don't think looking purely at the size of the wattles mean anything.

She just has a small beard. One of my hens has it too:

Small waddles are normal.

I'm in the USA, and I see Silkies with beards and without beards. I don't know about "USA Silkies" in your country (I see your location listed as the Netherlands)

Non-bearded Silkies are supposed to have wattles, but not all of them do.

The gene that causes pea combs also causes wattles to be smaller or absent. Example breeds: Sumatra, Yokohama, Cubalaya, Chantecler, Brahma, Buckeye. The pea comb gene is often involved in making a Silkie's comb look right, which can lead to Silkies with no wattles even when they have no beards.

The beard gene also reduces or removes wattles, so beard and pea comb are two ways to get a chicken with no wattles.

Part of that information comes from the article "What Wattles?" on this site:

Some chickens have no wattles while also having no beard. I think that is the case with the Silkie in this thread.
