ISO: Friendly Advice. Moving away from family & never returning.

What kind, wise words! I am very grateful for your advice, thank you.

We are just now in the midst of premarital counselling.
He is an Orthodox Christian, so the question of finding a church is fortunately not one we need to fret over! Unlike the wide variance of doctrine and culture between most churches and denominations today, the Orthodox Church remains doctrinally uniform across all parishes, and culturally similar. The only main differences you may see are the melodies used (with the same words) in certain places.
I am very happy to be able to say that they are eagerly waiting to welcome me with warm hearts and kind spirits! It is a lovely group of parishioners.

I do generally follow the very good advice of avoiding social media based relationships and being transparent with those around me. It has unfortunately had little effect on my real life friendships and ability to connect with people. I hope and pray that I will find many friends when I move. I have grown up in a small bubble of people, and most of those whom I speak with are younger than I. I am intrigued by this new demographic I will be entering.
One exciting new connection I have recently made is with my soon to be sister in law! I met her for her first time over this past weekend when she, her mother, and aunt came for my bridal shower. She doesn't have any sisters, and is very excited to be gaining one. We had a wonderful time together.

I have been very anxious once when my mother was not around, during the summer while my Fiancé was visiting (before the proposal). He spoke prayers for me and read some scripture, then sat with me until I felt better. He is ready and more than willing to do what he can for my health and well-being. He is a very good man, and has a great devotion to providing and caring for myself and for our future, as well as for leading myself, and the family we may grow to be, in the way of the Lord. I am truly blessed.
Sounds like much blessing has been happening for you since you reached out, and that you have a wonderful fiancé. May you have a beautiful wedding day, and a blessed marriage.

I thought I'd give a little update!

We got married on the 9th and had a lovely honeymoon. Getting back home and settling into "real life" was a little rough the first day, but my husband handled my tears with much gentleness. Things are still falling into place and we haven't been home for a week yet, but it's going well so far. I'm finally able to unpack my clothes today, so it's starting to feel a little more like my home, but really feeling it will take a while. I do miss my family quite a lot, but I'm doing okay. I can still call them and chat with friends from home. The people at his parish here are all really, genuinely wonderful people and I hope to be able to get to know them and make new friends. I've got a lot of free time on my hands as a sahw (stay at home wife), and my husband works from home, so I'm not alone, and I do have hobbies and random tasks to keep me occupied. All in all, it's going well and I am still excited for the future. :)

Oh, I have all kinds of hobbies! Lots of artsy things. In fact, the tote I brought brought out here that had most of my arts and crafts things weighed 70lbs! That wasn't including my sewing machine and all my other sewing materials. That tote was also well over 50lbs.
I enjoy coloring, painting, drawing, embroidery, and some other such things. I also love putting together small mechanical things, but I don't do it often. Sort of like Legos, but more intricate (Legos and 3D puzzles are also great fun). I love to cook and bake. I used 30 eggs this week making quiche egg muffins to eat and freeze, they are delicious. I also used to ride horses regularly, but haven't since last August. I hope to eventually get back into it. My husband is open to me having one of my own in the future, if the Lord allows. :D I am a total horse person.

I've done a little crocheting, but just never got into it. I do enjoy my easy loom knitter! I can make hats and all sorts of fun things with that. I'm glad I brought it with me, though I haven't gotten it out yet. I have oil paints, but haven't touched them yet! I usually use acrylics, gouache, watercolors, and watercolor pencils for painting. I have a ridiculous number of different mediums for art! I really want chalk pastels, that's what I feel I'm missing right now. :p
For a while I cooked every meal for my family, and my dad was kind enough to pay me for it. It was a lot of fun, but also a lot of hard work. I would be in the kitchen literally all day. I love making chickpea curry. Do you have a favorite dish?

I got into crocheting during covid when we couldn't do anything. I so want to try gouache but I haven't found it yet. I use to do oil pastels but my sister stole them😂. Awe that was sweet of him! That sounds delicious!😋 I love making lasagna, I like experimenting how I do the layers lol😂
I also forgot to mention that I play the piano. Do you play an instrument?

I think I just got mine at Walmart! I also have oil pastels.
I bet you could do a lot of fun variations with lasagna! I can't have gluten, so pasta isn't common for me. There are gf pastas, but they are mostly rice based and they cook differently. It was rough when I first developed an intolerance, but now there are so many good foods I know how to make that are healthy and balanced!
I don't actively play an instrument, but I do know how to play a few tunes on an ocarina. :) It's buried in a tote somewhere I think, lol. Unless I left it at home.

Oh ok I'll have to look! Aww that stinks. I remember being gluten intolerant for a few but that was just stress with my mom being sick. I am glad you found some good recipes! I just looked up an ocarina what does it sounds like? it looks cool! Hopefully it's somewhere in your totes!

Really interesting about the stress! My intolerance causes bloating and really bad brain fog. Most of my ADHD symptoms went away when I stopped eating it!
An ocarina is a woodwind instrument, so it sounds kind of like a flute but with a richer resonance and less breathy tone. They are really fun to play!
