Hi!

Creating this thread to post all things chickens, with some likely guest appearances from our horses, goats, and pet cow, Rosita. My husband and I, along with our 3 pups, live on a small hobby farm in WNY with just over 5 acres. It's a childhood dream come true for us both.

I've never felt more like myself than every minute, hour, and day I spend here with my animals.

Meet the FLOCK!

We currently have 10 hens and one rooster in total. I just picked up 5 of the hens this week so they are in our quarantine coop.

I'm still new to chickens and learning their breeds but to my knowledge we have:

- 1 Ayam Cemani x Australorp Rooster
- 1 Barred Rock
- 1 Golden Laced Wyandotte
- 1 White Rock
- 2 Easter Eggers
- 2 Sapphire Gems
- 3 Mutts (I have not a CLUE what they are LOL)

Meet the GOATS!

We have 2 Nigerian Dwarf goats, Missy and Gypsy. They are sisters and 2 years old. We've had them since August, when we took them from a friend who could no longer keep them. They have been such a cute and fun addition to the farm.

They are incredibly low maintenance. They even eat Poison Ivy and love it!

Meet the HORSES!

I've been a horse girl since I can remember. We bought this property originally so that I could bring the horses home and not have to board them anymore. We all see what that has turned into!

The white and black paint is Chunk (yes that's his real name). He is a 5yr old, registered Drum horse (Gypsy x Shire) and about 1300 pounds, hence the name. I joke that he was "born broke" because of his laid-back personality, not much phases this big boy.

The solid black horse is Dug. He had a rough start in life; being pulled from a k*ll pen when he was just 3, he's now about 5. He was extremely underweight and blind in his right eye. His past is a total mystery. He has a 3-digit brand on his hip so we think he may have been bred to be bucking stock for the rodeos! He has some trust issues and I'm not sure he'll ever make a riding horse but he will always have a home here with us. Him and Chunk are BEST friends.

Hi! Your animals are all so cute! I will definitely be watching!

Meet ROSITA!

Rosita is our resident pet cow. She is a Dexter heifer and about 3 years old. I've known her entire life, since she was bought by the owners of the barn that I used to board my horses at. One of my horses at the time became extremely bonded to her, and her to him. When we were moving the horses home last summer, it only felt right that Rosita joined us. I was luckily enough to buy her from the barn owners and the rest has been history!

Rosita loves to be brushed, scratched, and snuggled. She has a spunky and sassy attitude but is so sweet. She has NEVER used, or threatened to use, her horns for damage. She's a great companion for the horses but has been gentle with our dogs and chickens too.

I couldn't imagine this place without her!
