Just learned my lesson

And I always thought it was "old fogeys" like me who are supposed to get hidebound and stuck in their ways.

Me and my sister were like oh my gosh- the epitome of hostile and unwelcoming. I will stick with BYC and if I really want I will just make my own discord community because the way they treat others is unnecessary. “Best practice” is really so subjective and to say that this is the way things must be done is insane. They can keep their crazy rules and guidelines.

Oh my god I was also in the backyard poultry keepers discord server and the people there are so extremely rude! If you don’t do it their way they don’t want to hear it and like shame you into doing it their way or by their “best practice guidelines”. I got flamed for saying I use puppy pads in my brooder during the first week- I also said I stagger hatch and have chicks hatching everyday and got a response saying they don’t understand why I would do that when fertile eggs can be stored for 10 days which I then said I will do what works best for me. The majority of that community are narcissists and think their way is the ONLY way. View attachment 4109755

Geez, there are many ways to do things and different things that work in different situations. As long as one's birds are happy and healthy I don't care how they do things

I personally would rather use pine flakes than puppy pads but I appreciate that many people use puppy pads with good results. The chicks certainly aren't harmed at all by it and if both the birds and the keeper are happy that's all that matters at the end of the day

We only use the pads because they fit perfectly in the box and I can stack them then just pull the dirty one off lol. They are only on those a day to a week then we move them to the play pens

Yep that’s what we use!! The picture is our playpen we move them too when they are a little bigger

These are sorta like the pads a nurse might put under you in a hospital after surgery. Thin but absorbent.

Tell them they sound like Reddit. Everyone on there has "the only way" for politics, posting, etc.
