I need help, I made a homemade incubator from some videos I saw online. But the main heat source is a lightbulb. Every night I turn it off because I don’t want it to overheat or to make the eggs too hot. But, when I wake up in the morning the eggs are about 70 degrees. What can I do to keep the eggs warm for several hours?? I’ve been leaving it wrapped in a microwaveable heating pad but it only keeps it warm for like 2 hours. I don’t want to have to wake up every few hours to warm it up... what can I do?? Please help! :(

You can't incubate eggs that way. They can't cool down every night and develop. They need to have a constant temperature to develop. Get a proper incubator, or follow one of the tutorials on this website.

Where can I find the tutorials on this site?

Your eggs will never hatch that way. They will become deformed and die. Hens don't get off of the nest at night. Light bulbs aren't very safe, just get an incubator. Your local extension office might have one you can borrow.

Oh ok... thanks. I’ll try that

I made one once, unfortunately a lot of eggs died in there. It was so unreliable and it barely worked. I had it running perfectly for a couple of days, then suddenly it spikes to 114 degrees. Cooked all of my eggs. I would just get one online somewhere. Some people make ones that work fine, but I always end up spending so much on them its not worth it. And they killed lots of expensive eggs.
