keeping reptile greens fresh......

Best way to keep the veggies and greens fresh is to start eating them everyday and sharing your salad with him.

That's what I do for all my reptiles. Made me into a rabbit food eater but it keeps from wasting greens. Don't forget though that you can feed them other veggies besides greens and ones that can be frozen. Just use a balanced mixture of veggies.

Broccoli
green beans
carrots
squash
cabbage
tomatoes
cucumbers
cauliflower
peppers
snow peas

I also grow dandelions, clover and plantains in a plastic sweater box for them especially in winter.

I keep telling DH that dandelions are useful but he doesn't believe me. We have a compromise:
I let them grow in the backyard for greens for baby chickers.
He pulls them and treats the front yard so that he can have 'grass' in the 'lawn'.

I have iguanas, BIG ones! Being total vegetarians (unlike beardies) they go through a LOT of greens. I do have a small hydroponics set up (www.aerogrow.com) but to keep them fresh in the fridge, use a trcik large restaurants do:

Use a large plastic container with a loose fitting lid and place the chopped greens in it with enough water to cover them. Don't crush them down into it but you can fill it pretty full as long as you can cover with the water. Then just pop it in the fridge. Then you just have to grab a handful and let most of the water drain and serve. It's a good way to give them a little extra hydration if the greens are well soaked (they absorb extra water if they are chopped)
Chopping the greens has a few purposes: 1) you don't have to waste space on stems and inedible parts, 2) they absorb more water, 3) they are ready to serve whenever you are ready to feed

You don't even need to dig in the garden if you don't want to, you can just plant some in a pot. You can even buy seed packets with a mix of greens in them, now. It doesn't get any easier than that!

I breed Beardies so I never have this issue however...I find that when I keep the chopped greens in a plastic bag of any sort.(yes I have even tried the new green ones) it goes bad and slimy really fast...

what I do id I chop enopugh for a few days and I put in a big plastic container with a few papertowels that are just slightly damp to the touch I use recycled icecream tubs..the ones with the resealable lids
