This started as a grassroots movement in France in the 60s and now accounts for 30% of the French market, despite costing double what commercial chickens cost.

They basically use a slow-growing bird, which is typical of many of the large breeds.
They then free range the birds and let them grow and age beyond commercial standards.

Us Americans want cheap food, so chickens need to grow fast to keep costs down. Some day we may catch up with other countries more forward thinking.

I am here to give an update of the statistics of label rouge chickens; they are not great, in fact pretty unpleasant but as you can see from the photos they are better than the supermarket alternatives
