Chicken oddities: what’s something you wish your chicken/chickens didn’t do?

They have a massive area to free range but seem to only poop on the patio and door mat. They also seem to enjoy nasty weather and refuse to use the sheltered part of the run unless it is nice weather.
Right everybody says to keep them dry and warm . . . mine are out in the rain with the gate to the run wide open . .they could go in, but no . . .I swear they're ducks with chicken beaks.

I have light brahmas and lavender cochins who are a light silver. They do the exact same! The last giant storm we had with a baby tornado, tore down their front run, so we had to move them to the back. It rained for a week straight. Never a light mist, but always full on rain and the lows were in the mid 30'sF. I swear they refused to take cover. There's hiding spots all over the large run, but no! Rolling in the mud puddles and standing in the rain soaking wet. I kept putting them in the coop to dry off, and they refused to stay and dry off. Finally I gave up. They are still alive, so that's good. 🙄😆
But yeah, these light colored booted chooks love the mud for some reason. My dark brahmas and black cochins don't do it.
Maybe they're trying to blend in with the darker chickens, lol.

Fun thread. I have this one hen that likes to stand around the run and yell for no reason. She is SO loud I can hear her 100 feet away from inside my house with the doors and windows closed. It's not the egg song, it's not the alarm call, it's not anything I can identify and it's not anything that any of my other chickens do. So why TF does she do that?!? It drives me nuts! Actually it's not the sound itself that drives me nuts - it's the fact that my city neighbors hate me already because of the chickens, so each yell is a stab of worry that they're gonna come after me AGAIN...

The first one, I swear it sounds like she's laughing, lol.

Watching my tiny D'uccle rooster hunker down in +70 mph winds refusing to seek shelter baffles me. Watching the hens enjoy bad weather but run from the sprinkler or hose also baffles me. They jump into the water bowls that are around the yard but don't like puddles. They make no sense!

One of my cockerels is so dim, I swear I could put a pot of boiling water over a fire and he'd be the first one in.

Yes! My tiny Serama roo is like this, too! It's like he needs to be ready to fight the wind at any moment. He's my only roo at the moment, and all my hens are regular or giant breeds. My man is like Donkey from "Shrek" and his dragon wife, except he's never made babies. ;)
But he THINKS he's a big boy, and doesn't even let his name, Waffles, make him feel any less.
I make fun of him, but he's a good boy who tries so hard. I love my short king who sleeps under his ladies' wings at night.

My little guy's name is Tiny. He does have at least one baby and more are incubating right now. His one known baby is a cross of him and a black sexlink with the ones in the incubator all being EE's. I only know he is the Sire for that chick because it has feathered feet and he was my only feathered foot guy at the time.

I need Tiny to give Waffles some lessons! I would love to see a Serama/LF Cochin cross. 😆

Unfortunately for Tiny only a couple of the girls have accepted his attention since the flock change up earlier this year. My lead hen won't tolerate him trying to breed her and will peck him if he tries. She actually charged and body checked him off another hen who was complaining about the mating before she chased him pecking at him for a minute. He is also 2 so this will probably be his last summer, just need all the chicks to mature before I shuffle the flock around again since I know I have several cockerals both bantam cochin and some barred rock mixes I hatched out before my large roosters got the boot.
