I just got chicks a little over a week ago. They’re been doing great! But I went to check on them this morning and I noticed one of my chicks eye looked funny. She’s has it somewhat squinted, it looks like it’s been leaking some sort of fluid and it’s dried around her eye. I have a picture of her other eye for comparison. Does anyone know what this is or how I treat it? Or if it will just go away on its own? Do I need to isolate her from the rest of the chicks? Sincerely a new chicken mom

It could be some sort of an infection or an abscess that had popped. Unfortunately, I am not sure.
Do you know if I can use these products? It says for “all animals” and seen someone say they’ve used this brand before but didn’t specify what product it was.and if so is it worth getting both or just one?

It looks like she has some injury to her eye from pecking or scratching. Is she being picked on? The Vetericyn eye gel can be used, but usually I recommend flushing the eye with saline or an eye wash, and then applying a dab of Terramycin eye ointment from the feed store or plain Neosporin ointment twice a day after cleaning it.

From what I can tell she hasn’t been getting picked on, but we did have and are still currently having some really crazy weather and tornadoes and storms. I’m wondering if they all got really nervous and riled up and she accidentally got injured last night. I’ll continue to keep an eye her though if she gets well enough to go back into the brooder and make sure she’s not getting picked on by the rest of them. I did not know that you could use Neosporin on chickens so I will definitely keep that in mind. I did have an eyewash and I went ahead and used it on her and I already feel like she is looking a little bit better in her eye. I don’t feel like she’s squinting as much. I’ve attached a picture of it after doing the eye wash. I went ahead and ordered that ointment from my local tractor supply and I’m going to go pick it up here later in hopes that it will continue to help her healing thank you so much!
