I thought you meant you ATE them -- until I got to the last sentence.

I got 2 day-old leghorns last week ... want to cross with my blue ameraucana roo to make hens that lay light blue eggs. So far they are sweet. Would constant cuddling them help them to be more friendly by POL age?

I had 4 leghorns last fall/winter and after owning them for a few months, I said enough was ENOUGH! I HATED those birds. I know that's mean, but my gosh, FLIGHTY! My normally quiet and complacent coop went psycho when those moronic beasts came in. It was pure chaos with my own pet chickens terrified of me for no reason! But once I sold the demons from HAIL (sp incorrect on purpose) all immediately calmed down again. I can just keep having brown eggs for all I care at this point!

I have three of the lil' beasts and after watching them mroe closely for a few days, I've decided only 1 is truly crazy. The other 2 are just curious, but the main one...she is straight up mean and the main escape artist!

They sure can fly, though! All my other chickens have to be helped to the roost (still learning the ramp) and my leghorns just fly up!

You are right- they are crazy and OBNOXIOUS! I had 6 white leghorns about 30 years ago and swore I would never have them again (and so far have not). They would all fly into the brick wall that was one side of their run every single time, and I mean, every... single.... time... I went out to collect eggs, change feeders, waterers etc. Drove me flippin crazy!

Having said that, now that so much time has gone by and I've forgotten how nuts they are (hee hee) I have been tempted to get a couple of exchequer leghorns for white eggs and because I have heard they are more mellow than the white ones- don't know for sure though and would hate to have them give my other chickens any ideas. Good luck- I gave mine away

If anyone is interested McMarray's is known for their friendly leghorns and that is where mine came from. It does pay to check around.

I have two , Francesca and Antonia, and I have never had any problem with them. (got them from Ideal) Yes they are not as friendly as my others and they are harder to catch, but for egg laying they cannot be beat. I get one egg a piece every day. I also like looking a them, I think they are cute with their combs all off to one side.
