My rooster is wobbling, tries to walk but stumbles, laid down with his feet in awkward position - mostly under but not Al the way and his wattle is dark purple on top and when he was laying down he just started closing his eyes. I thought he was dying- maybe is 😢 I went in to get some warm water and put corid in it and feed and dried fly worms in it and he had moved to a different spot but was laying again. He did eat some. He is already isolated as far as no birds can get to him and he can’t get out. I closed off his chunnel so he can’t go more than in his coop area and and 8’x 3’ area. I did see him poo- looked small but normal, but could have already had a bigger first poo before I came out so maybe that’s why it was small.
What can I do?
We also have these teeny tiny speck of a bug things in the coop? Could this be a problem or his problem?
Please help!!

I'm concerned by the bugs - if it's mites they can cause anemia, lethargy, etc and make your birds very ill.

Does he roost with the other birds? Or is he kept separate?

Please do post some pics of the mites. Someone else already tagged the chicken gurus I was going to tag.

It took so much work that I’d rather delay the re- entry and make sure that I have been thorough.
Any other things I should do?
For mite control put double-sided adhesive tape on the entire length of the underside of the roosts and check morning and night for mites which will get stuck to it on their way to their nightly meal feasting on the chickens' feet .

I would get him drinking fluids, and if you have Poultry NutriDrench or electrolytes that is good. Offer some ground beef live in case of anemia. Do you see evidence of mites or lice on his body? Look him over at night with a flashlight in case of Pouktry roost mites. If you see lice or mites on his body, get some Permethrin spray at the feed store, and spray his body. Permethrin garden dust would be better if it is cold there. Could his comb have been frostbitten during freezing weather?

He gets chick feed bc it’s not as high in calcium that the hens need. He gets shells, soldier fly worms, scratch, whatever bugs he finds and random kitchen scraps- I always check first to make sure they can have what we give them. Recently- I have them all a celery and egg shell mash mixture - maybe about 2 weeks ago. That was the first time we gave them celery. Should I switch his feed to what the hens get? They get a layer hen feed - it’s from kalmbeck- spelling 😬
Cut out all treats, & why are you giving him shells?

Hens, & roosters can be fed one diet, Chick feed, Flock Raiser, or All Flock for all genders, & ages. The only thing that would have to be supplemented is calcium(Oyster Shells)which can be fed in a separate container, or feeder for the hens to regulate their calcium intake.

Thank you- I will look for that there.
Will this be enough to kill all the mites ?
Or do I bathe them all and dry them and then add this?
Ollie was moving from one place to another - slowly and then staying where he ended up for a while. But his vent area looked very red- so I think he needs some skin relief. Would an Epsom salt bath give him relief? Or cause more distress?
I checked the birds at night. I didn’t see anything on 4 of the hens that I looked at, but when I looked at Ollie he had bright red skin by his vent and I saw those little black bugs- they are the tiniest little specks, but I saw them moving so I know they were bugs and not just dirt.

We have already checked 4 hens almost daily. But it was part of the morning responsibilities with the chickens. I never tried to check Ollie’s hard spots. Even though he’s a pretty good guy he still tries to get me when I’m holding him so I can usually just check his face, neck, feet. I figured that if we found mites on one of the hens then we would know that they probably all had it including Ollie so I wasn’t too concerned about checking Ollie’s bottom. BUT he is the one that has them the most - 😩 I’m guessing all the others have them too, just not as much because in my quick inspection I didn’t see them, but I don’t see how Ollie can have them and they don’t.
So will this mite problem cause him to stumble when he walks? Is it one problem or a mite problem and something wrong with his leg?

I am going to try to clean out the entire coop today and close it off. Bathe all the chickens. Dry them. Let them back out there, but not in the coop while I’m washing and letting it dry.
I use shavings in there as that is easy to poop scoop and gives a soft landing. So far no respiratory problems with dust.
I have read about using construction sand, but I can’t find anything by that name. Last year I called 3 places that carry sand and mulch… and they didn’t have it or know what that was.
Is there a different name for it? Would the same be better for mite control for real? That’s what I have read, but anyone experience this firsthand on here?
If your rooster is already feeling down, bathing him may cause more stress. The poultry dust is a powder. One of the people on this forum @Wyorp Rock suggest putting the powder in a sock and using the sock as a powder puff. Puff his vent and under his wings.
If he has mites, they are probably everywhere. You will need to clean out all bedding from the coup and burn it if possible. Otherwise put in airtight bags and let the sun bake them.

Treat the coop with either spray that has the same insecticide or use a leaf blower to blow the powder around the coop and into the nooks and crannies. Close the coop and let the dust settle. Take precautions to keep from ingesting the powder and getting in on you while you do this.

Mites require extreme measures as they can quickly kill your chickens. Someone else already mentioned getting some beef liver as it will help reverse anemia.

Hope your boy recovers quickly and that you rid your chickens of all signs of these parasites.

Ok- thank you for this information!!
I’m sorry - I do have another question -
How often or and for how long should I feed the liver and how much each time?
Ok- that was more like 3
I am not sure on the quantity of beef liver. I would offer him a tablespoon and see how he reacts. I also do not know how long you should offer it; perhaps until he stops stumbling. @Eggcessive may have more information.

If my rooster was in this type of distress, I would offer him a small portion of the beef liver, provide him with his regular feed - I would probably wet it and make a mash of it because my birds love their feed this way. I would probably also give him a poultry vitamin. I would do this until he was acting normal.

What's his normal diet?

What's the weather? Comb looks like frostbite but could be a 'tell' of lack of oxygen.
The bugs? Can you get a pic?
Is your boy still roosting? Sleeping on floor or in a nest box?
Hope others can add more insight for you and your roo..
