Limping, and now foot is turning green?

My Speckled Sussex is about 23 weeks old. Yesterday, I noticed she was limping and pretty much non weight bearing on her foot.
Today I went out to find it turning green!

I brought her inside and soaked it in some warm water with epsom salt, but other than that, I don't know what I should do. She is acting fine otherwise, eating and perky, but is very painful on that foot.

Any ideas what is going on and what I can do?

Now, this is a little worrying.
The green is most likely to turn out to be gangrene so get straight to the vets with that one!
I can't give any other advice but get to the vets,

Can gangrene come on that fast, overnight? She just started limping yesterday, and prior to had no issues. Ugh, makes me so worried as she is one of my favorite girls.

How could she have gotten this? She really didn't have any major wounds, just a slight scrape I think (hard to even tell, it was that minor).

Looks like bruising from a sprain/foot caught in something,i can also see purple and foot is swollen(almost looks like she stepped in something green). Soak foot in warm water/epsom salt bath. If bruising,you should notice green changing color. Judging from the deep color i am guessing a severe sprain,check for fractures.

Has the initial scrape been cleaned and treated for infection?

For pain give her a low dose aspirin(81mg) or a reg aspirin(325mg)dose is 25mg per lb of body weight, Crush and place in water or sprinkle over feed or give orally(wrap in a pce of meat or cheese)

Thank you for the advice! I just put some antibiotic cream on the scrape yesterday, as I didn't think it was too major to do much worrying about. When I saw the green this morning, I thought it was something she stepped in as it was so bright, so one of the reasons I soaked her feet was to see if it would come off. Which it didn't! Poor thing. She was bearing a little more weight on it this afternoon, but still seemed reluctant to use it much. I will give her an 81mg aspirin in the morning and check to see how it looks.

That was my thought too since she started limping suddenly yesterday, I figured she must have jumped off the roost wrong and maybe sprained it. I am keeping my fingers crossed this is just bruising and not something worse.

Where would I get a broad spectrum antibiotic? Is that something a vet must prescribe?

No smell at all noted, so that's a good thing! It definitely looks swollen to me, but doesn't feel much hotter to the touch than the other leg.

Note: there are three types of gangrene,dry where tissue turns brown/black shrivels up and might fall off,no smell and can be treatable.

Wet gangrene smells like rotting flesh,you cannot ever mistake the smell,this is life threatening as toxins are produced due to blockage of blood flow which results in stagnant blood,this results in black dead necrotic tissue.

Gas gangrene is a bacterial infection that produces gas in tissue. Infection spreads quick and death can be rapid.

I should also add, the first photo does not represent the color well, it is not this vibrant green in person. Its more of darker shade of green. Here is another picture of it in different lighting which is closer to what it really looks like.

Hey there, I'm having the exact same problem with one of my birds. It is now day 3 since I noticed the bruise and the limping, I've already tried the salt bath, given her aspirin and put antibiotic cream on the affected foot. Please give me some more advice on what else I should do, thanks.
