Hi, I am totally new to raising chickens. We have two in our backyard coop. There is a small enclosed area with a bottom that they spend the night in and a slightly bigger outdoor run with no floor. A few nights ago there was a rounded hole dug under the outdoor run. I put bricks around the whole thing and I saw some marks but the animal must have given up.

I have seen divets in my lawn many times, and before the chickens were here. Any idea what animal could be doing this. I have seen snakes. Do they, can they dig? This hols are pretty small two or three inches in diameter (tops). I thought about getting a Tomahawk trap just so I know what I am dealing with. I would like to create a list of known predators to the area. I am in South Huntington.
Thanks for the help.

There are raccoons on Long Island, Fox, Coyotes, skunks, possum, .... the whole range. I have roots in Valley Stream. It would not surprise me if there are wild ferrets up there by now......
