Look at what I found !

Hey, have you heard about this incredible chicken coop idea? It’s like a life hack, and I can’t believe it’s actually possible. Imagine this: waterproof wallpaper on the walls, shelves for bedding, and it’s all on your standing level. You can clean it right there, and it even has a built-in trashcan part! Isn’t that amazing?

I’m curious to know if anyone has checked to make sure that everything is safe for the chickens. They might not be too keen on this new setup, so I want to make sure they’re comfortable. What do you think?
I think it’s adorable. If you can make it work functionally for you, I don’t see a problem With aiming for something esthetically pleasing. It will get covered in dust and poop, and they may peck at the wallpaper, but if you go into the build knowing that, you can modify yours accordingly :) I would aim for a different color other than red, bc I don’t like it, and I wonder if the wallpaper being red attracts pecking more. Also add a dust bucket if you’re going to do the gravel flooring. I’d actually do construction sand in the run instead. I love that fountain tho! I bet the girls would love that. Hard to keep clean, sure, but maybe provide another source of water in a regular waterer for them, too.

Built-in trashcan part? Where? Totally missing that. Though the opening where the ladder comes in could be used to drop cleanings through into the collection bin or bucket. Me, I'd just make a big mess trying that.

As to the "shelves w/ bedding - at standing level" , that's a pretty common build. Go through the coops section here on BYC & you'll see some in each section. Small, medium & large.

I agree it needs ventilation. Is there something I'm missing, that these pics aren't actually showing? I've not noticed different ventilation in other builds.

The washable wall paper just makes cleaning easier. As long as the owner is happy, that's awesome. Ive seen chickens tear into things one time you wouldn't expect & others you'd expect them to & they dont. All the red, makes me "twitchy".

There is storage both above & below the nest boxes. All you see is the door latches, the pics don't show the doors open. Personally I'd turn the top row of nest boxes into storage as well. The owner stated she was happy with their build.

This isn’t my coop, but I was planning to place a trashcan here in the picture, not first action for it, but that would be a good idea to put it under this so that when I clean the coop, I can just dump it and then take the trashcan out when I'm done, where the circle is. I intended to build my own coop in a similar style. I’ll review the other coops on BYC. Thanks for your feedback on the wallpaper. I was concerned about the chickens tearing it up. The person who actually created the coop said that she never had a problem with it, but I wasn't sure, so I posted this to learn how to do it better.

Ok, yes that opening is for the ladder that goes down to floor. I would probably suck at getting cleaning to "go down the hole" unless trim left off & I just scrape poop boards contents into it. I have never used a poop boards, but have used shavings for both horses & chickens. I think that poop boards would be better w/ Sweet PDZ, which will dry out the poops. Then you use a kitty litter scoop to pick it up. Others use sand. It's hard to sift chicken poop out of shavings, hemp & shredded paper.

I am SO glad I live in NC & can utilize open air coops & tractors. Just a roost & ladder to brush or scrape off. All those "pieces" give me the "hebe-jebies" - with thought of pests & cleaning. Right now, I'm not working. I have some time, but I'm happy not be in an enclosed chicken coop for cleaning.

My new hatched chicks up to mature chickens all peck at different areas of wood & plastic. I've seen them tear up insulation by pecking. I have no idea if they'd destroy wall paper or not, but there are a lot of folk w/ wall paper in their coops.

I'm in NC, I have a converted Shed 10x16 - so they roost in a super secure 'house' basically.

It's clean as a whistle.

But, I free range from 2 hours after sunrise until sunset. They lay in there, and stop by to eat/drink a teeny bit. But they don't spend a ton of time in there.

I use poop boards with construction sand/PDZ and pine flake DEEP bedding on the foor. It does not smell. It's not gross and the only cleaning I have to do is the poop boards.

Please don't insinuate all enclosed sheds or coops are gross, disgusting or unclean - it's patently false.
