Looking for Double Yolk Eggs of Any Kind for a school Project

We believe we have a chicken egg in the incubator right now that is a twin. When we candled them on day 10 you could clearly see 2 black dots moving around, when you could only see 1 in the other eggs. It is clearly the biggest egg in there. This is our first time incubating eggs & not sure what to expect. Sad to hear that usually only 1% make it though.

If OP doesn't respond I'm hoping you will be trying to hatch. It's not usual but it seems it has happened for them to survive. Of course do some research before deciding if you're up to it. Good luck! You might be part of the 1%!

There are some youtube videos (watched them last night) that show the hatching of twins from chicken eggs. It's rare, but it does happen.

And I have a copper Marans that throws double yolks all the time--last egg of hers I tried to incubate wasn't fertile, so I'm not sure if the rooster is wooing her correctly. ;-). But I could send you some double yolkers--I'm assuming you want eggs that have NOT been in the fridge?

Yes, that would be preferred, although I have had success hatching eggs that have been refrigerated. Message me with details if you like, I'd be happy to try and hatch some twins.
Unfortunately my school project kind of fell through though, as both of the emu eggs have rotted. :( Hopefully chicken eggs fare better.

It sounds like it could be twins, but it could also just be the chick's eyes. They create very dark spots in the egg and sometimes you can see two of them due to the position of the chick. What day are you on?
All you can do is wait and see, and help the chick if it needs it eventually.

We are on day 18 right now & just locked them down. We candled it again before lock down & it looked very full. The air sack was very lop-sided on that one & not nearly as big compared to the others we candled before lock down tonight. The 2 black dots we seen on the first candling were in very different spots & moved in opposite directions. Hoping for the best & will keep you posted.

If you do have two in there you may well have to help them, so be prepared if they don't hatch by the time the others in their batch hatch.
I had a single hen once that I had to pry from her egg because she was positioned with her beak against her belly and would never have hatched otherwise. She survived after that, long enough to have her own chicks before I lost her to a predator.
I assume at least one twin might be like this if twins are to reach hatching stage since there would not be enough room in there for them. Good luck though and hope it hatches.

Here's a great post in a thread about chick positioning. Click it and then click the link at the end.
Hi! quick question.... your saying you couldnt see much when you candled? Sometimes you can see where their yolk sacks are located when candled, the lighter spots when candling, you may need to look for this if you need to assist to try to figure out positions. This is all uncharted territory so you should really study on positions, so you can make your best judgements later on. You may just be very lucky and have them be able to pip and hatch!

A few things you can keep in mind

Malpositions are either the first to pip or they are the remaining eggs that just cant get into a position to pip at all. Therefor my guess is if you see an internal pip, you may only get one out of it, unless it can open that membrane up enough for the other to get air inside. Chances of DIS are very high I am sure you are aware, nothing much you can do but pray and wait to see what happens. My guess is if it internally pips it should be able to open the shell, a mal pip may need help at some point.

Study this awhile along with the links the others have given
