I have only 2 old birds and need to add to my flock quickly to help provide eggs for my family. Looking for a few young layers (or soon to be layers) to help out until I can raise some chicks in the spring. If you know of anyone in or near Ohio I wonder if you might let me know. Barring that I am looking for incubator suggestions and where to buy fertilized eggs. I have existing coops etc and want to get a jump on Spring hatching if I can. Thank you

Hello there. Not sure what part of Ohio you're in, but if you need some adult hens right now, check out Happy Trails Farm Animal Sanctuary in Ravenna. They are a rescue farm and have a ton of hens of all ages. I started my flock with birds from there. Here is their website: https://happytrailsfarm.org/

They are a great organization. If you can't find what you are looking for with them, check your local Craigslist.

Hello Henrietta. Thank you for your suggestion. I did look at the site and it looks a great cause. I am near Dayton and have been ill so cannot travel, but I will keep them in mind for the future and will pass on the information. Looks like it will be Tractor Supply chicks for me but they said they will have them in February so thats all right. Thanks again

No problem! They are a great organization, and nice people. If your hen is getting lonely waiting for the chicks to be of age (chicks can usually join the rest of the flock around 6-8 weeks of age - supervised and with hiding spots), you may want to see if someone on Craigslist has a hen up for sale. My local Craigslist often has people selling their extra hens. Just a thought since it may be about 3 months until the chicks can join her. Best of luck. :)
