Looks Like Eye Got Pecked.. Erythromycin Ophthalmic?

This morning she was slow moving coming off the roost and just squatted at my feet not the mad dash to the duck house with the others.

I flushed with saline she would open it could still see what looks like an eyeball.. By this evening there was some chunky discharge during the flushing so i applied neosporin ointment "no pain relief". I do have a few tubes of Erythromycin Ophthalmic would that be better to combat infection that looks to be seting in?

Se seems to be breathing, drinking, and eating fine just slow to move.. I have her isolated right now in a comfy suite with a white porcelain throne..

Erythromycin ointment is fine to use, and is used the same a terramycin ointment for respiratory diseases or conjunctivitis (pinkeye.) I would flush the eye with saline eye wash twice a day and clean out the pus or goop, and then apply an 1/8 inch bit of ointment after each cleaning. Look for any bubbles or foam in the eye, nasal drainage, sneezing, or crackly breathing.

I will look out for them items right now it is just thick puss and her stools are like water. She is very uncomfortable.

Wife has a prosthetic eye so we always have Erythromycin ointment on hand.

She had some greens earlier here is her stool.

She has her own perch.. for the next few nights.. I did put some apple cider 4tsp per gallon in her water.

Now this is wifes fave as she also is missing her right eye? Wonder if Maloney's Custom Ocular Prosthetics do eyes for chickens they sure do make my wife's eye look eal.. LOL JK...

Now after a stay in the hospital wing of the farm how should I reintroduce?

Well morning 1 2nd ointment treatment lots of goo.. no bubbling or other symptoms little talkative her poo was whitish.. Hope the eye can be saved.

Erythromycin and Terramycin are pretty interchangeable, according to my vet. So I would just keep using that. Getting the goop out of the eye is key for the antibiotic ointment to help.

Her droppings look similar to ones I have seen in my older birds who do not lay, and seem to have reproductive disorders or internal laying. The green bits are usually from not eating enough, and the white urates can be from not drinking enough. If the white urates look yellow, that can be from liver problems that go with reproductive problems.
I would try to offer her foods like feed, cooked egg, and tuna or salmon with added water.

Should i go to the farm store and get oral or injectable antibiotics also? If so what would be recomemded..

She is eating well I gave her some scrambled eggs she loved them.. The stool looked normal this afternoon and she is trying to open the eye the cornea now looks white and her inner eyelid is moving. Will not stay open and still still long enough to get a good photo. Saline flushes will continue.

Should I do same as my cat when she had eye crud from a scratch and vet used same ointment. Apply 4 times a day for 3 days, 3 times a day for 3 days, 2 times a day for 2 days once a day for 3 - 5 days. Or is that to much?

Evening dose.. lots less goop.. I know this ointment in humans and cats acts fast just dont want to over do it? I can see a wood and what looks like a pine needle came from the last flushing. Their litter and run is fresh fir shavings. nesting boxes are hay.. they do seem favor the duck bath water for drinking vs the clean feeders??

Neighbor fell 2 150'+ Fir trees.. Ground all branches they had some oak rounds and little oak shavings from a utility job in the truck but they did not get in the coop or run yet. this is pile #2 LOL.

I've heard that wood chips need to sit for like 6 months or a year or something before they should be used as bedding. Not sure why, but just thought I'd mention it.

I'm glad you seem to have gotten the debris out of her eye.
I doubt you'll overdo it on the eye ointment. Give the regimen your cat had a try.
Does the ointment have any kind of instructions on it?

Poor girl. She looks so uncomfortable. That pick of her up on the roost in the bathroom is adorable though.

That was the kitten regimen for a scratch on the eye that got infected and she is the mouser of the place now LOL Vet said squeeze about width of eye lay the goop in.

On the chips was told to keep them moist.. I try my best it seems to work I go out there with hay fork turn it over grubs and worms & restocking my fishing bin of night crawlers for fall trout run. And they dig and dig and dig string it!! They act Like a chick with first treat when ones gets a big worm or grub they announces and runs like mad!

Think one tried to eat a mole that popped up..

Amazing how fast infection sets in all 3 Australorps Sat afternoon perfect happy Sunday morning big ruckus in the coop = one injured by evening starting to get crusty next day wow..
