Loosing chickens fast!

What state are you in? Most state vet labs will do a necropsy and testing on chickens that die, if the body is kept cold, not frozen. They will identify the certain respiratory disease present. Both MG and infectious coryza are respiratory diseases that cause swollen eyelids and serious respiratory symptoms. Did you notice a bad odor from the beak or face from the sick birds? Tylosin can be used to treat MG, while coryza is better treated with sulfadimethoxine or SMZ TMP (bactrim.) Here is where to find your state vet lab for a necropsy if you lose another.

I would look for any more worms on fresh droppings and take a picture. As debbie said, round worms are long thin and cream colored. Tape worms are small like grains of rice and may be moving. Tapeworms require praziquantel to treat them effectively. They make praziquantel tablets, droncit and drontal tablets with it, and for chickens, Equimax horse paste with praziquantel is cost effective. Dosage is 0.16 ml given orally once, and repeated in 14 days. Round worms are best treated with Valbazen 1/2 ml once and again in 10 days, or SafeGuard Liquid Goat Wormer 1/4 ml per pound given for 5 days in a row. Ivermectin has lost it’s effectiveness on worms in recent years.
I will look this evening when I get back home to see if I can find any more worms.

Good morning. Well I looked through the poops last night and did not see any worms. I am going to check again a while this morning. I work at home today. Since I gave the Ivermectin, should I give them all the praziquantel? When I got home last night no one new was sick. Tilly was up walking around and her eye did not appear as swollen. The other two hens were the same, eyes closed, lethargic and just "sleeping" on their perch. I did get a little fluid and antibiotic in them but not much. Thor was up, but was just standing in a corner. I scooped him up, he fought me a little, but tired easily. I took a warm damp washcloth and washed his face, head and chest off to clear away most of the mucus. This way, I can see if there is any new mucus today. I gave him some more antibiotics and he swallowed that down, then went to his water and took a few sips on his own. His poo is white and green, see pic, but his comb was turning a bluish color, also pictured. Besides worms, what do you all think they have? Anything else I can do or do I need to plan on culling them? Thor and Tilly are part of my original crew that I raised from babies. They are probably close to 4 years old. My heart hurts but I also do not believe in letting animals suffer if they are not going to get better.
