days until hatch day!!! Now is the time to make sure you have everything you need and that your brooder is in working order for your newly hatched chicks.

For me, this is the longest part of incubation, the time between candling and hatch, you know you have live eggs.....how many will actually hatch?! Keep busy with your contest entries......some will be ending soon!

I love it when you come on with these darling little posts!

Sit down everyone.

In my almost 54 years on the planet I have never sipped, nor tasted, nor drank even a drop of coffee.

Believe it or not.

Ha, I believe it. And all I can say is, good for you, because, I hear it can become addictive..like my taste buds for Coke..I try soo hard not to drink too much Coke, all that bubbly isn't good for the bones..seriously, I had a neck fusion a few months back, my bones were way soft..lay off the soda pop, and salt! I'm doing much better on not taking in so much of both :))

I candled my 12 SLW last night for the first time. I have 11 developing, one clear. A few wonky air cells. These are shipped eggs and my limited experience, the wonky aircells don't hatch well. We shall see. We still have a while to go.

THat's ok !!! My eight year old is making up for you!! He's been drinking my coffee since he was 4. Now I reach for my coffee and it's empty!I gave up telling it was my coffee a long time ago. I just refill my cup.

Though I don't drink coffee like I used too and only decaf now that I know caffeine causes insulin spikes. Like most overweight people I am already pre-diabetic.

Finally made time to candle last night, only had to throw out 7 bad ones, which would leave me with 41 if my slippery hands hadn't dropped one that was developed,

I seriously cried when it happened!

I would have cried too! So Sorry!
I "gown up" and even tuck my socks into my pants, and put a hoodie on, so only my face is exposed. Two pairs of rubber gloves. Shoot the thing with a .22 still in the cage. Hopefully it doesn't spray (sometimes it does, sometimes it doesn't but it ALWAYS stinks no matter what).

Move it to a trash bag, tie it with a wire tie so I can get it super tight and then do the same thing again twice so it's triple bagged. After the second bag I put my outside pair of rubber gloves in the bag, then third bag it. Bag stays outside until we can get it to the dump. Cage stays outside until boyfriend pressure washes it. I immediately strip clothes, they go into washer. I go into teh shower. Clothes and body get washed at least twice with Fels-Naptha soap (good for removing poison ivy oil AND skunk odor). Skunk goes to the dump (I always feel bad when they have the compactor open and not the open top). Drop skunk and flee scene. Don't return to dump for 2 weeks.

(I've caught my fair share of skunks)

If if were that involved I would make the DH do it :)

Wow this is going really fast! Thanks for the reminder about the other stuff!

AAAAAAAAGH!!!!!!!!

Hubby used all the coffee beans yesterday and didn't tell me we were out.

You must report to the purchasing agent or the supplies won't be replenished, and this is the one supply I the purchasing agent cares about!!
This purchasing agent is expected to have the inventory memorized and never let it get to that point.

I had to give up all caffeine for 9 weeks for a class I was taking. I thought I was going to die for the first three days. After that I was just a bit cranky for a while. But I slept SO much better at night and my mood was better (after the inital withdrawls).

Our weather warmed up, into the low 40's yesterday and this morning, before sunrise, it's around 30 which means it will be above freezing shortly. Another day of melting and thawing. DH and I chiseled trenches in the driveway ice (which is about 4 - 6 inches thick) to channel the melt water to the french drain.

We have had record high snow falls this yer. And it's all still here, usually it blows away or melts away 2 or 3 times a year. Alaska will be having some flood issues if all this snow melts too fast.

Springtime is bitter sweet. Looks like it's going to be another beautiful day.

So Alaska is the reason Montana didn't get hardly ANY snow this year!?!

For anyone wanting to participate in Chookschick's cinco-de-mayo turkey hatchathon but only have one incubator. Here is a very inexpencive Hatcher that I built for the purpose to be able to participate. Thanks to another member who inspired me to do so. I posted these plans in the turkathon thread and decided to share it with you all in hopes you all will join us there as well.

That is pretty cool! I may have to try that, because now that i have one incubator, I am almost positive that I need another one.
I am happy however that my DH didn't see those plans before he bought me my incubator, I would have been forced to make it myself!

All caught up. Off to go clean the chicken coop. Have a wonderful day everyone!

I have sipped coffee a few times -

unless it is loaed with cream and sugar. Which I Don't want to drink. So I stick with plain old tea, black and green, which my Grandmother started me drinking before I was 10 as a special treat. She would not let us add sugar.
That is how I started! Half cream and sugar!! Then one summer I worked for Maintenance--only gal--and no cream and no sugar. Black coffee only. I tried, looked tough, took a few sips. Choked down half a cup. Dumped the rest as we headed out to work. My stomach roiled. Yuck. Cream doesn' mess up my blood sugar so I use half and half or heavy cream. No cremora which is a heart attack promoter. And I have learned to drink my green tea without sugar. I'm 50 and shooting for 100, I want to enjoy my kids for a few more years!!!

Another late bloomer! Linda I did the same thing. Coffee started in my 30's and so did cigarettes. How dumb was that? Although I'd like to cut out the cigarettes I haven't. I think my stress levels have been to high to stop. Coffee actually helps. I get migraines and for some they need to cut caffine, but when I was dealing with a brain tumor, they perscribed caffine tablets. Man can those things literally shake you up. Dumped them and drank coffee. Oh and after living through the strokes and tumor I told my doctor I needed a cigarette (hadn't have one in more that 2 years), a drink and massive amounts of coffee. The drinking is very rare and has to be something sissy. LOL

Perhaps you can find a substitute for the cigatettes: patches and gum. ANd slowly wean off the nicotine. When you are ready . . . .

Patches didn't work. They worked on me like the caffine capsules. I actually wanted cigarettes more oftem too. When a anti smoking comercial comes on, I need a cigarette. Figured that one out when my husband was alive and I hadn't smoked for almost a month. Stupid commercial started and I hunted down the emergency pack and lite up. Those things are like triggers. Bad dentures, so no gum. I used to chew Dentine all the time. No real food for that matter. I've quit before and I've cut way back the past couple of months, so when I get to a once in a while cigarette, I'll stop. Normal things never work for me, cause I just ain't normal. LOL

. I think it is why I have trouble keeping my weight up to a good level. I need to find a diet I can eat that will put some weight on me with out adding sugar

. Sometimes when I am doing a lot of hard "Yard Chores" My weight will really drop down and then I'll use a lot of sugary things to get the calories to get it back up
