Thank you! That's so awesome-- I feel like if I were in your shoes I'd have done the same. Congrats on your graduating! I'm barely a month away from it being over... apartment search post-grad is hell... if you don't mind my asking, what did you do with your degree?

And thanks! But with the poor state of things economically, it seems it'll be a good while before I have a house of my own... trying not to think about it too much. Ha.

I didn't do anything with my degree. It's been nearly a year later and I'm still living at home, taking care of my chickens, and pulling out my hair because I can't get a job and everything is too expensive. I am hoping to enlist in the military this summer, though.

I totally agree with everything you said! EEs have to be my 2nd favorite, but they're extremely close behind Silkies. Honestly I'd say they're tied for first (which was why getting Silkied EE crosses was such a fantastic present, ha...) Plus they're generally such friendly, hardy birds in my experience.

Health doesn't permit me to have them now. But, I can hear my neighbor's Chickens doing the egg song. Love it.

Aw, that sucks you can't have your own, but wonderful you still have access to them in some capacity. I have a friend nearby who has chickens I go visit on occasion when I'm really missing mine. Still, can't wait for the day I get to have my own again.

I'm really sorry to hear that. The job market has been horrible. I have a friend IRL in the same boat-- over a year post-graduation and still living at home with an engineering degree. Why enlisting, if you don't mind my asking? And what branch?

I hope your friend is able to get a job soon...this life is not fun.

I'm trying to enlist because it is likely to provide me with a steady job for at least four years and allows me to move out of the house. I could try to commission as an officer, but that process can take a year or more. Trying to enlist is taking long enough (I have to wait for waivers). The branch is Coast Guard .

Thank you ! I chose Coast Guard because I would prefer to be stationed near the water and they let you pick your job. You can also qualify for other jobs outside of your field. For example, a medic who works in a clinic can also do law enforcement when they’re not do medic stuff.

Neat! Good luck with the Coast Guard life @Evadig. Have you lived near water most of your life? The flexibility certainly is nice.

And it's a practice IACUC protocol, which is Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee and that committee is responsible for approving and maintaining the standards set in a research protocol for the use of animals. I was making a practice protocol based on a study already done, and chose a study involving chickens because I'm most familiar with them. And in the protocol you're supposed to outline husbandry of the species you're using, justifying why they're the best model, etc.
