Hello fellow chicken lovers! I had a random thought and I would appreciate your feedback on it. I am in the planning stages of building three breeding pens. What I was thinking is that it would be neat to have one rooster covering two breeds of hens. So I would get purebred chicks and hybrid chicks. I would want the hens to lay different colored eggs so I could separate pure from crosses. I know that Ayam Cemani and White Leghorn make zombie chicks…but what other combinations do you think would be popular that I could create with a setup like this? Thanks in advance!!

Well generally I find purebred chicks and hens to sell a lot better in my area. Of course there are people who like mixes but most of them like playing around doing the mixing themselves. To do that, they need to know what genes they're messing with and have 2 copies of certain recessives.

The easiest sales are blue egg related, in my experience. Ameraucana, Cream Legbar.
I wouldn't put the money and effort into EE's unless it's very specific or interesting to customers, like fibro EE's.
Just about everyone and their cousin has an Olive Egger project.
So first, some market research. Hop on Craigslist, local FB poultry groups, etc. and see what's selling. In my area everyone is listing mixes and updating the adds to be flashier every time (they are not succeeding).
