MARYLAND THREAD!

If you have a high school with an Ag program nearby, contact them. They're often pretty happy to take on an extra cockerel or an interesting batch of hatching eggs. Two of our local Tech schools actually have classroom roosters with occasional classroom free-range privileges!

Looking to rehome a bantam Old English rooster. He is not the snuggly sort, but doesn't show aggression. He's under a year old. He refuses the coop and sleeps in a tree overnight with some of his girls. We are near Catonsville, MD.

Contact Hereford High School. Someone in their Ag program may take him in. Cecil's Ag program took in two of my super-friendly young roosters a while ago ... and now they have free run of the classroom a couple of times a week. It's pretty cool!

Hello, we have a 7 month old Rhode Island Red rooster we are looking to re-home or give away for free. He will roost in a coop completely fine. He isn't aggressive to adults however he may jump at small children. This is in Anne Arundel County.

Has anyone ever been to this event? I'm thinking about going but it costs ten dollars for admission and I don't want to waste my money if it isn't worth it.

I've never been, but DANG, I wish I lived closer. From the online photos, it looks like a full-on Harvest Festival, with a swap, food & food products, artisan crafts and entertainment. If you go, please report back & let us know what it was like!

Well, I went! There were about 40-50 vendors with plenty of products and animals.
  • Lots of chickens, but they were mostly bantams and silkies. The quality of any standard chickens was deplorable.
  • Rabbits everywhere
  • Two booths had piglets, and a few others had sheep and goats
  • There were a few young emu, some Pyrenees puppies, and varying numbers of other fowl (ducks, pigeons, etc).
I didn’t buy anything but seems like a good place to get an animal (except for chickens or ducks).
