MARYLAND THREAD!

Hi!

I just bought a house in Pasadena, MD in Anne Arundel county. The house came equipped with a pretty sophisticated chicken coop and run.

I plan on dropping off my paperwork Wednesday to get approved for a chicken license.

Is anybody in this thread aware of how strict or difficult the Anne Arundel County process is?

My lot of 16,000 sqft is perfect for getting about 6 chickens.

Would love to hear from anybody who has experience!

Approved for a chicken license? From whom? The county, HOA? We are down in Wicomico county on the Eastern Shore, the only thing the state wants is for you to register the flock ( this is not a license), Wicomico county, and we are in the county only, doesn’t care. BTW, Welcome.

Thank you for responding!

Anne Arundel County requires a chicken license with a lot under 40,000 sqft.

I’m posting in the forum to find out more information from any AACO residents who have been through the process!

I wish I was in Woco! lol

Thanks for the warm welcome. Any experience or info would help.

Hi everyone! I’m a newbie to the forum and about to get our first chicks. Does anyone have any leads on local places with either Buff or Lavendar Orpingtons or Easter Eggers? We’re in Carroll County

There’s Chesapeake Farm and Hatchery in Preston Maryland down here on the Easter Shore. We got our BO’s from them, in our case we simple drove and picked them up.

Hi there and welcome to BYC!

I’m in Frederick County. I don’t have chicks presently, but will be firing up the incubator next week. I’ll have chicks available the first or second week of March. I have mostly mix breeds, including Easter Egger. My chicks are sold straight run (male and female).

Since you mention that you’re just starting with chickens, you may only be interested in female chicks. If that’s the case, and you’re set on the breeds you mentioned, you’ll probably have to get feed store chicks. I don’t know of anyone local who sells sexed chicks of the breeds you want. I have had good success with the Tractor Supplies in Frederick & Mt Airy as well as Farmers Co-op in Frederick.

You might also want to try the Maryland Backyard Chickens Facebook group. It’s pretty active. And you might have a local group closer to you. Just use caution- lots of scammers unfortunately.

If you have questions as you’re getting started, let me know! Always happy to help other Maryland Chicken Tenders!
