Matilda is going to lose her feet. :(

The tips of both my roosters combs got a little frost bit in a covered run after a winter storm front moved in causing temps to drop to single digits. All it takes is high humidity and sudden temperature drops.I'm sorry you're going thru this! I can't imagine how difficult it would be.

The owner of this thread is my friend, so I will answer your question as she is unable to right now. Matilda sadly died of heat exhaustion this summer in a wicked Texas heat wave. But Matilda did lead a normal happy life up until her death.
Oh no! Was she ever able to walk again? I did not read all of the pages (got up to 20) i think. Poor girl! What a inspiration to the chicken world.

Yes, Matilda walked about on her stumps. She had to have padding, though. Many chicken keepers end up with a "special needs" chicken. We love their spunk, and will lovingly extend the extra care. The payoff is a special bond with such a chicken that goes both ways.

By Saturday, February 27, i knew her feet were in serious trouble. Still red and swollen, but the toes also began to show dark discoloration. I continued with daily epsom salt soaks, baby aspirin, & veterycin. Her appetite was still poor, so i went to the feedstore and bought her dried crickets, & a bag with a mixture that included sunflower seeds and peanuts. Boy did those dried crickets stink.
😕

At least she had 2 years more 😞
