Hi all, I have a chick, my mom got them, I'm not sure how old, Id guess 8 weeks, one of them is having issues, my older flock of 4 years has had mereks in the past but the babies have been kept seperate with the intention of trying to prevent mereks disease. The baby isn't walking, she doesn't have any balance and she's acting as if her leg isn't there, when I push on her toes she isn't curling them. I seperated her and gave her sugar water and chick feed, she isn't interested in eating anything. It's probably mereks right?

Update: She was acting pretty lethargic earlier but now she's acting more energetic, she can fly just not walk.

try moving the leg around to see if it's broken. I had a hen with a broken leg, and she wouldn't walk for a couple days, except to hop on one leg to get away from me. she's completely healed now, but has a limp bc she wouldn't let me splint it.

I did test her leg, she didn't show any signs of pain, I moved it around a few times, her toes don't curl and she doesn't seem to be able to feel it

I don’t believe it’s Merek’s anymore, I do think she might have injured her foot somehow, even though she’s not showing any signs of pain because she is getting somewhat better, moving around more and becoming vocal again! I’m going to continue quarantining her because if it is mereks I want to keep her away from the others.

What is her poop like, can you post photos?

Could she have been trampled or injured? If she's improving with some TLC, then she may just be in a bit of shock.

8wks is a bit on the young side to present with Marek's. Lethargy, puffing and hunkering up, etc. at her age, I would lean more toward Coccidiosis.

I'll have to get pictures later, my mom just cleaned out her brooder, it's pretty normal, not runny or oddly colored, trampling is definitely an option, there's 11 of them and they do tend to run over each other a lot. Thank you! I'll look into some articles about coccidiosis as well as shock.
