Metronidazole (Fish Zole) Dosage Question

Been doing research on different medications for chickens (bc that's what chicken keepers do in their free time and can't figure out the proper dose for metronidazole. @casportpony and others have said 50mg/lb and 25 mg/pound, which dose is correct? I would hate to OD a small bird...Also is this dose given once or twice a day? It seems most people agree that the duration is for 5-7 days. Thanks!

If I said 50mg per pound that was a typo. What are you trying to treat? Different diseases require different dosages.

I'm not treating anything right now, just wanted to have a proper dose in case i ever need it..chickens seem to get sick at the worst times. I understand about having different doses for different diseases now, thank you for correcting me. In general what diseases do you treat with metronidazole? We've had chickens for a few years now and I'm just trying to learn more...

The diseases that can be treated are:

• necrotic enteritis
• histomoniasis
• giardia
• trichomoniasis
