Minor imperfections in the face Q?

So Boss my silver sebright being the little hustler that he is has a few scars on his face from fighting and one from a metal crate when we had to hit the brake suddenly in the car and he slid hard into a sharp spot.

Nothing too severe. But do minor imperfections on the face from injuries disqualify chickens in show? He's got other stuff that will dock points too but I just want to take him to the fair for fun mostly.

Here's a cool website to check out!

IMO, if the scars are easily visible from a distance, then they may not cut out for the fair.
Have a look at fair websites and when they are at, and look at the rules for poultry!
http://amerpoultryassn.com/PDF Forms/Official APA Show Rules January 2013.pdf should help as well.
There's 2 main ones I am worried about. One is a notch in his eyelid. The other is a wattle injury that hasn't healed fully. I don't even know how he hurt that eyelid but i'm peeved. He does have some very cock feathering too which is not right for his breed but I want to take him anyhow. I'll turn him out shining and show him well.

Last year I was shocked at some of the condition of the birds that showed and not only showed but placed. I would have been utterly ashamed to show those animals, and even worse the fact that they placed blew me away. They should have sent them home. Some looked sick, some were half bald from molting, it was a trainwreck. A total and utter trainwreck. If those can place my moderately incorrect sebright with a couple of scars ought to be able to at least show up.

I am guessing the op is in the US, so I am not sure a British site is of much relevance. Also, the fair may not be APA sanctioned, so those rules may not apply. A link to Poultry Show Central (www.poultryshowcentral.com) might be more appropriate. To the op, could you post a picture of the rooster? If the scars are minor, you might use an antibiotic ointment such as Neosporin a few times a day to decrease scarring. Also, use VetRX or baby oil on show day to brighten the face.

Yeah here. First one is eyelid, second is healing wattle. His eye is fine its just a bad reflection.

I do not believe scars will disqualify a bird. There may be a point deduction depending on the judge.

Honestly, I would show him if you think he's worth it. It can't hurt anything and talking to the judge afterwards would yield priceless info.

I mostly want to do it for the experience and fun of it. I know Boss has some flaws (some pointing in the saddle and hackle that shouldn't be there). He has a lot of good points too though and being a rarer breed, the county fair he could be the best bird there of his breed. And he WILL be the best groomed there. LOL

My boyfriend has a serama who is pretty much a gem and we're taking him. I don't want to be left out. I've always wanted to show a chicken. Boss is my baby, and we only have these two because of an incident with the city (we also have a couple that live at a family member's house but these guys live here with me indoors as pets, and it makes more sense to take the house birds) so he's my best option to take. The entry fee is like 3$ so it's not going to break my bank exactly..
