Have any of youz guyz ever bred a Miss Pepperpot?

http://www.omlet.us/breeds/breeds.php?breed_type=Chickens&breed=Miss Pepperpot

The omlet site states it's a hybrid between RIR, Plymouth Rock and Marans.
It doesn't specify which type of Plymouth Rock or Marans, but their links to those breeds show Barred Rock and Cuckoo Marans.

I'm interested in doing this simply because I am getting a batch of "cheap test eggs"* tomorrow which happen to be RIR/Barred Rock and I also happen to have Cuckoo Marans...so why not, eh?

*been having issues with low hatch rates in the 'bator, thus the "cheap test eggs" prior to Wheaten Marans and Seramas.

here in the UK the Pepperpot is very popular.

It is another name for what you call a sex link in the USA I have been told.

My girls are the same cross but over here one guy breeds them and has the rights to the name, he calls them Black Rocks.

Anyway, mine are from his stock, they are from RIR rooster and Plymouth Rock Hens. no expert but they are lovely hens, I only have 4 and they lay every day nice brown eggs. Friendly and good hardy birds.

Thanks!

I picked up a dozen Black Sex Link eggs today in trade for a couple of roos. Now, I've been well familiar with what a Black Sex Link is, but what about the claim on the omlet site that a Miss Pepperpot is essentially a BSL which is then crossed again with a Cuckoo Marans?

I'm not sure what a Cuckoo Marans would bring to the proverbial table, other than a dash of awesomeness.

Well, if that's the case, then I'm wondering what the males of that look like. That would mean that there was no barring in the females (which there isn't), but the sex-linking would have already happened with the F1 generation.

I'm wondering if they didn't mean that the Ms. Pepperpot COULD be a mix of a BR x Cuckoo maran which has been bred to a RIR to get the sex-linking. But...what's the point in that? You could just use a Cuckoo Maran hen to a RIR male and get the same cross with better egg coloring?

Ah, yes...I think you're correct in that a Ms. Pepperpot is probably either a RIR x BR or a RIR x Cuckoo Marans.

Since the hybrids would not breed true, there would be no sense in breeding RIR x BR and then that F1 x Cuckoo Maran, would there?

Thanks!
