Hi all!
I inhereted these 4 in the fall. I was wondering if anybody had any idea what mixes the cockerel might be, and if he may possibly have a blue egg gene or not.
The 3 chicks below I believe may be all pullets, they came from the same hatch. 1 of the blacks is bigger than the other two though, and up until now, I've always had a cockerel or 5 in the batch, so I am second guessing myself!
Thank you for any input you may have!

The cockerel looks like he’s part Easter Egger, with that beard and muffs, and could quite possibly be carrying the blue egg gene. All the pullets are indeed pullets!

Thank you HorseGirlAbby! I was thinking there might be some EE in him, but I'm not experienced enough to know if there are other possibilities. He's turning out to be a very good Cockerel at 5-6 mo's old, so unless something changes, he's a keeper!
I'm pleasantly surprised to hear feedback that the other 3 are likely pullets. I have been waiting for cockerel signs, and they're not showing up hahaa! I had fully expected 1 if not both blacks to be males!

That’s great! Good cockerels are always a blessing.

At fifteen weeks, they’re for sure all pullets. You’d see some male feathering by now if they weren’t, and they’ve got teeny tiny little combs.

Absolutely! I lost my Pedro (my profile pic) in September. He was a great Roo. I've been through 5 other Cockerels that didn't work out, and funny enough I was expecting much less from this one. He was a nervous wreck when I got him at about 2 1/2 months old and then being new to an established flock I had to keep him and his "sister" in a little pen inside the big pen for about a month just so that he would eat. He was afraid of his own shadow, poor little guy. But he's wooed about 4 or 5 of the youngest flock members, and he respects the senior hens enough to behave himself when they give him what for. He's good with me too. Who knew the fraidy-cat would be the best of the bunch?!

Hard to tell if he carries a blue egg gene or not but there is a myth that hens with blue/white earlobes lay blue or white eggs. Pink lobed hens lay tan/brown/cream colours. Not sure how true it is but a fun thing to know 😁 My Olive Egger has pink and white earlobes and my two legbars lay blue eggs and have light blue lobes. Probably just a coincidence though!

As for the chicks, they all look to be pullets... maybe make a note of their lobe colours and see if it matches their eggs when they start laying! 🤣

Interesting! I will have to test it out and report back!
