MJ's little flock

Should I have left the poop in the nest?
I really can't say at a distance and having no idea really what the conditions there were like. Personally I would have just picked it out, and left everything else as was. What the poor chick does show is that both you and Mary have done good; it was fully grown.

Did you get back to the breeder about the thin shells on the Welsummer eggs? I really think you should.

:hugs
I'm so sorry it went wrong for that one, for Mary and for you.
I am still hoping some of the three eggs will hatch 🤞.
I would also have removed the poop. I removed a poop from Léa the day before the hatch.
(I also apologise that I can't seem to use the reaction button this morning.)
I'm hoping at least one of them can pull through, maybe two. I don't have much hope for the one that rolled down the ramp and went cold early on.

Well, if Lea's eggs hatched OK, maybe Mary's will too.

She's a big hen and the poop was right under her, so it would've been tricky.

I wish I'd quickly relocated her and eggs to a holding nest in the big tub while cleaning out the mucky nest, then quickly transferred them all back again.

Once I'd seen the poop, I was in a bit of panic to remove it before eggs stated hatching and didn't stop to think it through.

Well, that's something I guess.

I will be. I'm waiting until I can give her good news after the hatch. To sweeten the bitter pill. If that doesn't happen, I'll just work harder to find kinder words.

entirely understandable - they're usually huge and stinky and the last thing you want a hatching chick to roll into.
What will be will be. I try to be stoical during a hatch.

Eyes closed, dreaming of better days.

I'm a couple of metres away, outside the run.
