Modifying API - Heated Poultry Waterer, 3 Gallon

We have this water container for our 3 girls. It works well to keep the water from freezing (a big concern in Minnesota) but I hate that I have to fill it from the bottom and flip it over. Any suggestions on how to modify it?
Have you had any issues with the waterer not filling up the trough? If I tip it, it will start to fill. It’s not doing it on its own. I do have it hanging and maybe that’s the problem. Will try sitting it on a cement block.
Thanks

Ooooo. That's a very good point. We were close to just cutting a hole in the top.

It sounds like it might be important for me to look into a different water solution next year

I have this waterer, I am having issues with it putting out enough water for them. I keep having to tilt it for the water to fill the trough. Just wanted to post here and see if anyone has troubleshooting advice or similar issues. Please and thanks inn advance!

We have had the same problem with this waterer. And it’s a pain to fill from the bottom for sure! We returned it and asked someone at Coastal about it not filling the trough unless tilted. I had even stuck a small stick to make an opening for the water to come out. What we found out was how the trough was screwed on the bottom was not lining up correctly. There should be an opening that lets the water come out. Haven’t had issues with it since. HTH, if not I can take a pic for you. 😁
