Sponsored Post Molt: Optimize Feather Regrowth with Proper Nutrition

I live in the deep south and find that protein increases help tremendously help during a moult.

I will usually use one of three things (sometimes all 3) to increase protein:

1. Black oil sunflower seed
2. Calf Manna
3. Animal protein (sometimes cat food, occasionally ground venison)

I also allow my birds to free range as much as possible so that they can "find" whatever they feel their diet needs

2 of my chicken hens just did the half molt so that wasn't too bad, but my 2 Runner duck hens look homeless and neglected...

poor little goofballs. They are all eating chick starter currently due to a recent new addition not old enough to eat layer pellet yet...so I think the protein is higher. I'm also treating them to dried mealworms and they loooove yogurt. Hopefully they will grow back sleek and shiny and get back to being stress-free.

I use GPC Poultry Supplement in the water all year. During molt i increase the the amount i add to the water. It has lots of minerals and vitamins and one gallon goes a long way.

TSC does not carry it. My TSC cannot even order it. The Nutrena site says get it at TSC, and lists 5 stores in a 100 mile radius that have it. When I called them they say nope, can't get it check back at a later date. The Nutrena site needs some help. They need to give us a place where we can get this great product. I have been trying to get it since Sept wen I read about it. Very frustrating.

Im sorry, I know this is kinda serious, but I couldnt' help but laugh at some of the pictures of molting birds. Poor things. I have a small robin sized banty hen that I think is suffering from this too, her tail used to be beautiful and fan shaped now is just a nub. But we also went through a case of lice infestation so am not real sure yet which caused it. She is so tiny I just wrap her up in my bathrobe in the mornings when its cold and bring her in for coffee and morning news. Poor bird.
