My 2-month-old barred rock pullet jumped on my shoulder earlier and before I could get her off she snatched my earring right out of my ear and swallowed it! It is a stud so I'm worried it could poke her stomach or something and hurt her? I'm not even sure which chicken it was because 2 of them look exactly the same.
It's been 2 hours since she swallowed it and they are both acting normal...I tried to feel their throats to see if it was swollen and didn't notice any swelling. Do you think she will just pass it? What problems should I look for?
Here is a picture of the earring. My hand is small but the pointy part is about about a half inch long

She should be able to pass it. Watch her closely. If she is showing any signs of discomfort or pain, bring her to a vet immediately.
Chickens are very good at disguising their pain, so make sure you really keep a good eye on her.

Thanks for your reply.

I hope she can, she's still small though, only 2 months, so I'm concerned. What are some signs of discomfort? Making a lot of noise? Not moving around a lot?

On top of that, I'm not sure which chicken it was. There are 2 that look exactly alike and of course they were right next to each other when she jumped down off of me! I'll just keep an eye on both.

Any sign of discomfort would be standing in one place for long periods of time, laying down a lot, not eating, or when her behavior just seems off. Since you haven't had her that long, you might not know her well enough to tell when she is acting differently, but you can try.

Thank you, I will pay attention to her. Praying she passes it. She is still acting normal and it's been like 8 hours. Hopefully that's a good sign. Thanks again for your advice!

Hi,
I have had a chook swallow an earring of mine a few weeks back. I followed these type threads and stopped being overly worried about it. She’s been fine, eating, drinking and is completely herself it seems, however isn’t laying? I thought by now she would have started up again as it’s warmer here, and I began to wonder about the earring and if that could be causing it the lack of eggs?
Thanks In advance
