My chicken is about 2 months old and one day I check on them all and one of them wouldn't walk on her one foot. I'm new to chicken owning and I had no idea what was wrong. I checked for broken limbs and there was none, so I brought her to my school agriculture class and they still didn't know why she was limping. By this point ( 4 days later) her feet were curling and looked all bruised/ swollen. I did some research and it was not bumble foot or frost bite. She would eat and drink and poop just fine but she tries to walk and has to flap her wings to stay balanced. It's about a week later and her feet are totally black , and bruised on the bottom. One foot is tucked into a fist and the other are curled and some blood was coming out through the nail. I researched curly toe paralysis some but it didn't have the symptoms of the feet turning black. Dead tissue maybe? Looking for some ideas as to what it may be. Im going to put her down she's in a ton of pain and shouldn't have to suffer. I'd still love some in

put though!!

Welcome! Was your chick vaccinated for Marek's? That would explain the toe curling and balance problems. So sorry to see she isn't doing well.

Not sure, they were vaccinated for something before they were sent.. I m guessing its curling toe paralysis.

I thought that at first because it's been getting below freezing lately, but there's always a heating lamp and none of them are brave enough to walk outside

Curled toe paralysis, range paralysis, etc. are all essentially Marek's disease. Here is a link on nervous system disorders in poultry. I might give you some good information. Sorry that you are having to deal with this. One of my chicks got Marek's as well and it was difficult to watch her suffer and ultimately not be able to walk and end up dying.

Well your chicken is defiantly not getting the blood flow to the toes
and what ever the problem I do not see a recovery as the toes
will start to smell a little stinky in time ..........
