i have a young Silver Phoenix chick that is about a month and a half old.The chick is free ranged and still with its mom. i noticed lately that she is constantly shaking and that she is really spooky and never stops moving. Any Idea's?

That is odd. Is is like shivering or is it really shaking? Chickens may shake if they are weak or cold, and a slight shiver is normal for a chick that is being held.

I got this information form this link:

Avian Encephalomyelitis is a disease that can cause paralysis in chickens. It can also affect turkeys, quail, pheasants and pigeons. Like Marek's, this disease can show up as birds losing coordination, leg paralysis and/or weakness, including sitting on the hocks, neck spasms, and tremors. This disease is mostly observed in chicks, under the age of three weeks. As chicks less than three weeks can not develop Marek's paralysis, be sure to investigate the possibility of Avian Encephalomyelitis if you experience these symptoms in young chicks. i go outside and feed them bread everyday, there are 9 other chicks, she moves really fast and is really spastic. i am in central florida it does get hot but i dont think its heat stroke, she is just constantly trembling. especially when she gets excited.

I don't know what would cause it, but you shouldn't give them bread, it can cause health problems. Try giving vegetables or fruit instead.

Really?!? i feed my chickens bread everyday and they never have any health problems...

. would you happen to have a link to an article about it??

You don't want to give too much bread, but my chickens love wheat bread as treats also! We sometimes have to feed bread and cat food when we run out of chicken food and don't have the money to buy food for a couple days. They do well on it.

I can't find any links on "why" bread is bad for birds, but if you search "feeding birds bread" you'll see lots of people saying not to. Basically, because bread expands when wet, it could expand in their gut and cause a blockage. Also it is just not very nutritious and fills them up, which makes them eat less healthy food.
