My hippie chick

As some of you know I have a X of RIR/BA and thought I got 9 pullets and a Roo, well, as it turns out I think my mix may have an odd mix in one and I'm starting to think one of my pullets is a cockerel (sp) anyway so it may turn out to be 7 BA/RIR mix pullets 1 odd mix (don't know) my proud dominant Roo and the cockerel......what puzzles me the most is my hippie chick! She does it her way!! When they all run.....she doesn't! When they all come to me she doesn't! When they all eat she does when SHE is ready......I know her as the one who is always singled out.......she has no bully problems and is my sweetest girl.....she comes to me when others are freaking out and doesn't fall for the "I'm chicken" thing. I call her my hippy chick. Anyone have a girl who just does it her way? She isn't bossy at all....very sweet and trusting....when I do my count its ALWAYS one short.......my hippy chick is usually the one. She has become my favorite....she appears to be the smallest but holds her own....if one wants to buck up to her she just ignores them....the roo doesn't even have her eye. She will listen to the roo when it's a real safety call though. I'm waiting for her to give me the peace sign. Still now eggs on my end.....frustrated to say the least. I've re-calculated and they are 24-25 weeks.....no squat, no song, red faces, no nest box interest,and no eggs. My cockerel has red comb and waddel.....sheesh

I have a couple of hippie chicks! A black sex link hen who is about 3.5 years old and her daughter who was born this last February. Amelia (the black sex link) has always been one to do what she wanted when she wanted. She lays her eggs where she wants to, not where there's a nest box. The warm seasons are the most worrisome because they all free range and she won't stay with the flock. She ventures out on her own. Her daughter, Monkey is a lot like her, but she tends to come around for gossip hour in the early evenings when the young girls sit outside the back door and chatter away.
As for the not laying thing, give them some more time. It's early still.

It is egg-citing though, huh? Has your cockrel started mounting the girls yet?

Yes, it's exciting. I have a Roo who looks mature and crows often....he is the dominant guy....the other is still in the unsure stage....neither mount nor do the hens squat. It's just a slow process....don't know if two Roos will be a good idea. I actually have two hippie chicks....one is the leader of the two and are very close to each other......but when it's "I'm a chicken" time she runs with the majority. I'll try to post a pic

I have two roosters. One is 5 1/2 years old and the other is just over a year old. They seem to get along just fine, but the flock is kind of split up because the 1 yr. old came with his own flock that I've integrated over the last month or so. During the day, they all hang out together, but come nightfall, him and his girls go in one coop, and the other ones go with the other rooster in his coop. I also have a young cockrel that I'll be culling sometime this month.

In some egg-citing news:
it looks like some of my pullets are laying! I just found a nest of tiny pullet eggs. I'm not sure how long they've been there so I have scrambled all 12 of them up and will be a nice afternoon snack. I'll have to figure out how many new pullets are laying.. I don't know why they won't use a nest box!

I just posted pics of my confusion on the "pullet" and a breed. see my post if you have any background on this stuff. lol so confused. hope the Cockrel is in fact a pullet.
