My naked neck has a raised sore/lump on her neck is this normal for the breed? What could it possibly be?

I have a naked neck that is at least 8 weeks old today I found a raised lump in her neck under her ear i though at first possibly a cyst but it expressed nothing but some clear fluid and then blood. I've cleaned and rinsed it with poultry care vegrycin and silver honey wound cream. I didn't know if anyone else has dealt with this in their naked necks.

It was suggested that perhaps it could be an ingrown feather cyst, but on a naked neck, that's pretty much ruled out. Otherwise, lumps can be indicative of diseases like Marek's for one. Is there any Marek's in your flock or ever was? Have you noticed this lump growing, or just saw it like this lately?

Wyorp tagged @Eggcessive and @azygous, but it doesn't seem like there was ever a resolution as to what it was, and not sure there can be without a biopsy sent in.

I haven't had any mareks in my flock everyone is healthy I just noticed it yesterday. I thought maybe an ingrown feather as well since she is hatchery naked neck but then I noticed the way she like to scratch herself and I was thinking maybe she got herself too hard with a nail.

I was thinking that as well maybe one of the smaller chicks got some spunk and went after her. I just wanted to make sure it was a common occurrence in the breed.

It is not a common occurrence in the breed. You can clean it with sterile saline and use Blue Kote to keep her flock mates from messing with it. If it gets pussy, try some PRID drawing salve, you can get it at walmart, after cleaning with Hibiclens. Hibiclens will help kill any bacteria and PRID will draw out whatever is in there.

I vote for a pecking wound. Is this the only Naked Neck you have? Chickens get riled up over a single individual in their midst with a different feature and will attack the difference in that individual. I learned early on that this was a "bug" in chicken psychology. When I mitigated the difference by either adding more of the same or camouflaging the different feature, the attacks stopped.

Yes she is the only naked neck but she is also the biggest one i love her to death so if I get a chance to get more naked necks I will

The wound is all healed now with some poultry wound cleaner and silver honey cream she's enjoying the sun with me

Ok so I got all naked necks the last time and they are 3 weeks now and my one girl started off looking the same except now it’s gotten much worse! What did you end up doing that cleared it up? I had to leave for a week so now it’s much worse
