Alea,
Your first two photoes of Alto, is in 1st year plumage, NOT 2nd year plumage.

Your last 3rd photo of Dragon and Alto. Alto is in 1st year plumage.

1st year (1st adult) train feathers are mostly barred black & buffish white, with some green feathers.
Tip of 1st year longest train feathers do not grow past the tip of central tail feathers.

2nd year (2nd adult) train feathers do NOT have barred feathers and are mostly plain green feathers with some colourful eyed feathers.
Tip of 2nd year longest train feathers grow not longer than max 20 cm past the tip of central tail feathers.

Here's two good photoes of 1 & 2 year-old IB peacocks.

Below: This 1-year-old IB peacock is in his 1st year plumage, and had moulted 2 times and juvenile plumage and immature plumage are behind him.

Below: This 2-year-old IB peacock is in 2nd year plumage, and had moulted 3 times and juvenile, immature, 1st year plumages are behind him.

Wrong information not good idea and can cause members to become confused.

Actually Clinton, she was right. The train on Alto is the train I would expect when my birds are two years old -two years from the date the bird was hatched - exactly the same as the bird you have labelled as 1 year old in his first year plumage (no eye feathers ever on my 1 year old birds). By the time the bird reaches three years old, he should have a complete train. The second photo you have posted would also be a 2 year old if he was an early hatch (for me anyways) as his train is quite a bit longer. Perhaps my more southern neighbours get this as usual for a second year bird?

I don't know about how the dates of hatching can cause colours of trains of 1- year and 2-year old peacocks:

Alto's date of birth is not known.

2-year-old Alto is now finishing moulting from 1st year, to 2nd year plumage.

Can you please send me the informations and photoes of both early-hatching (April-May) and late-hatching (July-August) 1 & 2 -year-old peacocks ?

USA peafowl egg laying season start on late March, peaks on April & May, then decreases to August, rarely Sept.

I worry about members of BYC get confused about which the August-hatched 2 year old peacocks and April-hatched 1-year-old peacocks.

(I mistook Alea's late-hatched 2-year-old Alto for a 1-year-old peacock)

Numbers of green train feathers on 1 year old peacock and eyed train feathers on 2-years old peacock, are variable.

I will have to agree, and you have been wrong alot. You need to remember how far away you are from the states and just maybe they don't grow the same or as fast. I have had a coming 2 year old with almost a full train with lots of eyes also have had a 2 1/2 year old with small train and NO eyes.

I know when Minxfox got her birds and the ages because she was very excited and showed pictures of them to all of us, plus she has done LOTS of research on Peafowl and could know more then all of us.

I also have an 18 month old that has eyes. He is an IB/BS don't know if that makes any difference.

Clinton there you go again ..posting wrong info .....Minifox is correct on the birds age.

I have seen peacock hatched same day, and raised together.....have different train as 2 yr olds

Laying season here can be alot different than your post...The USA is a large area.......southern birds start earlier ,than northern birds, Not that rare for northern birds to lay in Sept. most are done in Aug.

Hi deerman,
OK, I think, to help BYC members tell which the short-trained late-hatching 2-year-old peacock and a long-trained 1-year-old peafowl, are 1-year-old or 2-year old peafowls, would be good idea to post the photoes of early and late hatched 1 & 2 years old peacocks. I were confused because members of BYC told me I had mistook Alea's 2-year-old Alto for a 1-year-old peacock.

Can you please send me the photoes of 1 & 2 year old peacocks and put the dates of hatching, so members and I can understand, about plumages of 1 & 2 year old peacocks.
