Hi, I’m looking for advice on a single chicken. After my divorce I moved to a new state. Unfortunately moving even part of my flock with me was not an option. So, I convinced my roommate getting some chicks would be fun. We went to a local place and bought three chickens. My grandkids weee loving it. We held and played with them daily. Watching them grow was an awesome experience to share with the kids. I knew before anyone else and soon realized Rita was a Rick!!! So, we rehomed him to a great family outside the city limits. This left two girls Jackie & Scrambles. Scrambles (she’s the one I picked out & named) was never friendly with the other two. She always kept to herself and hated Rick the rooster. I assumed the two girls would chum up after he left. It only made sense. But for weeks scrambles just kept ignoring Jackie. Unfortunately due to a wild animal in our neighborhood Jackie was killed. Leaving only Scrambles. At first I thought rehiring her would be best I decided I wasn’t ready to raise chickens in the city. But Scrambles immediately became super friendly and was enjoying her new life as an only child. She has been surprisingly happy alone. Always content doing her own thing. So, now almost a year has passed and my silly girl is a neighbor hood legend. She patrols all of our yards front and back. She has mad the neighborhood facebook page several times. It’s rather entertaining. We have random neighbors who stop in to meet her and things have been fine. We’ll all of a sudden she’s pulling out her feathers. She has also stopped bossing me around. See I keep her coop in my garage. When she became an only child I worried about her alone and wanted to keep her close. I also use this space to work. And it was fun to have her there. At night if I turned on lights or made to much noise she would come out and yell at me. Just boss me around. It’s rather funny. Now it’s all stopped. She hasn’t been out to complain in almost a week and then the feather pulling started. I’m worried she’s finally is lonely. She is going to be two years in March. I’m looking for any advice or suggestion. Thanks in advance.

Do you have a picture of her? Are you sure she is not just going through a molt?

I was thinking that. But I’ve raised plenty of girls and never noticed the feather pulling like this.
