Oh man! Love your whites!

I miss my white girl..this one is from waay in the past, I had a second white, but not like this girl.

Here is my last girl when she was pretty young.

Well, you know I'll get data!!!!!

I have not ordered yet... want to, but trying to force myself to hold off.. I'm torn between hatching a fair number out of the NN cx cross birds, like the chicks above.. or a reduced number of those to make room for the sg stock... ahhhhhhh!

either way, am so excited for you and the data!

p.s. the short leg dwarf surprises did not help with chicken math either.. have decided I simply cannot resist test mating these to see what exactly is up with them, genetically....

Have to say they are rather cute in an odd way.

That is adorable! The recent pic of my whites were out of a rooster that was sold as a cx chick at the feed store. But not sure if it is a slo gro or did not grow so fast because I had them on a controlled feed regimen with the goal of getting them mature enough to breed and help increase the weights in the NN. They were not monsters at 8 weeks but did eventually turn out to be huge birds by the time they were able to breed. Bred a cockerel with two hens, one was a green egger. Chicks came out half white, half barred.

what are the plans?

We're not exactly sure what our NN are, we know that the chicks they were sold with are some sort of sex-link (and growing ridiculously quick, I may add). However, the NNs haven't quite displayed that. We're going to see how our 5 grow out by Feb. if they're remotely slow-growing, we're going to order a batch from Dunlap of the S&G broilers to diversify them. We do have definitely plans for future crosses.

Since we have an extra Wheaten Sulmtaler Pullet and a Silver Wheaten Cockerel, we're breeding them together (the resulting cross aren't a recognized variety, so we're specifically keeping them for our freezer.) . The Sulms in my eyes are great, because they're already proving to be nice big birds (most of ours, we got in mid oct and are pushing 2 pounds), with great temperaments, and the boy we did send to the freezer tasted great LOL. So we're going to add to our NNs lines by crossing in Sulms, keeping those with the NN gene, and then from there, breeding for size/temperament/growth rate/etc.

I miss my white girls as well. one didn't survive hot summer and another one was severely hit by ILT so I couldn't keep her. the big fat one had such a wonderful personality and I know I will never have any even similar to her.

btw, too many cute chicks to comment each post. congrats to anyone, I think I am getting chicken fever too! but I will wait for the broodies and hatch myself. I have 2 Nn girls with BCM roos and other 2 Nn girls with rumpless araucana roos.

Yep - and I can recognize each of their individual crows at 4:45 am, too!!!!

It doesn't bother me, I just think "Good morning, Tank! Good morning JoJo and Earl! Good morning, Monkey! Good morning, Snape! Good morning, Goodwin! Dumbledore, you seem to have overslept!" :gig

That's funny, I just wish Pete would crow at 4:15 and be DONE. Instead, he crows at 4:15, and at 5:15, and at 6:15... and every hour until 10. Unfortunately, he also wakes the cat, who sits on my windowsill squalling for breakfast. So! I'm usually thinking "shut UP, Pete, your gonna wake the cat!" LOL
