We name ours after some unique characteristic they show in their first few months of life. Some examples:
A Silkie we hatched here in 2019 had these blue feathers on her feet (almost as blue as the "similar threads" bar just below where I'm typing this). Naturally she was named Elvis because of her blue suede shoes...
We have a Golden Comet hen that we named Rocky because she went over our 6' fence to fight one of the six greyhounds our neighbor has in their yard. She also tangled with a hawk a few weeks later and survived that too. Rocky just fit.
We had a baby that was so clumsy she looked like she was drunk, so she was named Otis after the Andy Griffeth character.
We've also had/have Sqeaky, Whiney, Patch (when a baby got her back feathers picked off a few times leaving a big bare "patch" on her back), Piggy (she ate like a pig as a chick), Cheeks (an easter-egger with massive cheek feathers), and so on...
Some are named after song titles of our favorite band: Greta, Ophelia, and Jack...
